Mohamed Irfaan Ali has been sworn in as the new President of the South American country Guyana, five months after the General Elections.
The 40-year-old former housing minister and lawmaker will succeed the previous President David Granger. After several allegations in the elections, the opposition candidate has been selected by the Election Commission.

The Founder and Chief executive of SpaceX, Elon Musk announced that the company has successfully flight-tested a prototype of its Mars rocket ship.
The test rocket was launched hundreds of feet into the air for nearly 45 seconds and it was landed upright. Some more shorter launches are being planned before the full version of ‘Starship’ would be launched. SpaceX is now the only private company to fly people to and from orbit.

Indian Government has recently extended a Line of Credit worth 18 million US dollars to the Government of Maldives.
LoC has been extended for expanding fishing facilities at Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO). This is a part of the Line of credit worth USD 800 million Line of credit offered by India to the country.

Pune-based Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), a deemed university under the Defence Ministry’s Department of Defence Research and Development, has won the first prize in the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2020.
SIH is a national-level digital product building competition, jointly organised by the Ministry of Education and AICTE. The DIAT team developed a technology called ‘DRISHTI’ to recognise face, expression and gesture using artificial intelligence (AI).

Export-Import Bank of India (Exim Bank) has extended a USD 250-million worth Line of credit (LOC) to Mozambique to improve power supply quality in the country.
With the signing of this LoC Agreement, India has so far extended 14 LoCs to Mozambique worth USD 772.44 million. A total of 264 LoCs have been extended to as many as 62 countries across the world around USD 25.98 billion.

The multilateral military exercise named Kavkaz 2020 (Caucasus-2020) is to be held in Astrakhan, Southern Russia.
The strategic exercise also includes participants from many other countries including China and Pakistan and other member-states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). Indian contingent includes 150 Army personnel and a small contingent from the Navy and Air Force.

The International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples or World Tribal Day is celebrated on August 9 every year.
The United Nations General Assembly declared the World Tribal Day in the year 1994. It marks the day of the first meeting of the United Nations Working Group on Indigenous Populations in Geneva in 1982. The day seeks to promote and protect the rights of the indigenous population.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has formally launched the Rs 1 lakh crore worth Agriculture Infrastructure Fund.
He also handed over Rs 1000 crore to over 2000 farmer societies through video conferencing. The fund assists farmers, PACS, FPOs and agri-entrepreneurs to build community farming assets and post-harvest infrastructure. The Prime Minister also released Rs 17000 crore as the 6th instalment of PM KISAN.

The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is set to open the country’s first Silk Training cum Production Center in the state of Arunachal Pradesh.
A school building in the tribal village of Chullyu in the state has been modified into the training cum production center. KVIC will also conduct training of artisans and support the production of Eri Silk, an indigenous silk variety of the North Eastern states.

The Mount Sinabung volcano located in Indonesia recently exerted 5,000 metres high into the sky, as per the media report.
Indonesia’s Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Center has confirmed that no casualties had happened due to the eruption. The local people have been advised to stay 5 kilometers away from the volcano.
