Former Maharashtra Chief minister Shivajirao Patil Nilangekar passed away at the age of 89, due to prolonged illness.
He had earlier been tested positive for coronavirus disease. Nilangekar was a Congress leader, who was the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from June 1985 and March 1986. However, he resigned from the post after an allegation and order of the Bombay High Court.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has unveiled the draft ‘Defence Production & Export Promotion Policy (DPEPP) 2020’ for public feedback.
As per the policy, the aim is to achieve Defence and Aerospace exports of USD 5 billion by the year 2025. It also seeks to increase the manufacturing turnover in Defence sector to $25 bn or ₹1,75,000 crore.

United States President Donald Trump has issued orders that would ban the social media applications TikTok and WeChat from operating in the United States in 45 days, if they are not sold by their Chinese-owned parent companies.
The order bans any transaction by any person, with respect to any property with the Chinese company that owns the social media platform, ByteDance Ltd.

The state government of Gujarat has announced its new Industrial Policy 2020 for the State, with an expected annual outlay of up to Rs 8000 crore.
The policy aims to attract investments for job creation, value-addition, adoption of technology among others. Under the policy, Industries will be able to get government land for projects on long-term lease up to 50 years, at 6 per cent of the market rate.

Mauritius has recently declared an ‘Environmental emergency’ after the Japanese-owned ship MV Wakashio was found spilling tons of fuel.
Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth announced the decision as the areas that were declared as ‘very sensitive’ were found as a dark layer in satellite images. The ship was carrying nearly 4,000 tons of fuel and it had suffered cracks.

Mumbai has become the first Indian city to display women symbols on traffic signals. The project is headed by the Ministry of Tourism of the state.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has installed traffic signals that display female icons with triangular frock. This is considered as a change from the default representation of male symbols that ensures gender equality.

Isher Judge Ahluwalia has recently stepped down as the Chairperson of think tank Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER).
She had held this position for 15 years and will be succeeded by the new Chairman Pramod Bhasin, who is currently the Vice Chair of the Board of governors at ICRIER. To honour her contributions, she will be retained as chairperson emeritus.

ECHO India, a Non-Profit healthcare organization, in association with Naukri.com has launched an initiative named “COVID Health Care Professionals (CHP)”.
The initiative aims to tackle the shortage of healthcare professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic by deploying trained healthcare professionals at COVID care centre. It is a platform that connects the professionals who are willing to offer healthcare services with hospitals and other health care facilities.

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has permitted registration of Electric Vehicles without pre-fitted batteries.
The ministry has stated that Electric Vehicles without batteries can be sold and registered only with the type approval certificate issued by the Test Agency. Also, the Ministry has clarified that there is no need to mention any other details of the Battery for the purpose of Registration.

The Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs has released the ‘Report of the Committee on Business Responsibility Reporting (BRR)’.
The report has proposed a new Reporting Framework for companies to reporting of Non-Financial Parameters. The framework is called ‘Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report (BRSR)’. The BRSR is to be integrated with the MCA 21 portal. Also, the information captured through the framework would be used to develop “Business Responsibility-Sustainability Index”.
