Notes:
The fifth edition of joint military exercise ‘Ajeya Warrior’ between India and the United Kingdom will be conducted at Salisbury Plains, United Kingdom. The exercise is scheduled from February 13 to 26, 2020.
120 soldiers each from Indian and United Kingdom Army would participate in the exercise. The joint military exercise has been conducted alternatively in United Kingdom and India. The training will be held with emphasis on counter-terror operations in urban and semi-urban areas.

Ace Indian hockey player Lalremsiami has been named as the ‘2019 FIH Women’s Rising Star of the Year’, by the International Hockey Federation (FIH). The 19-year-old player from the state of Mizoram, is the first Indian woman player to win the award.
In the men’s category, the Indian men’s team midfielder Vivek Sagar Prasad was named as the ‘2019 Rising Star of the year’ by FIH.

Notes:
Gulmarg is a popular skiing destination and a hill-station town located in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It is situated in the Pir Panjal Range in the western Himalayas.
The town is set to host the five-day national winter games event under Khelo India, from March 7. As many as 30 events are scheduled to be organised under five major activities namely snowboarding, snow skiing, cross country and snow show.

Veteran Indian journalist Nandu R Kulkarni recently passed away at Mumbai. A resident of Mumbai, the 70-year-old journalist was the Mumbai bureau chief of the Daily newspaper, ‘The Statesman’.
He started his career with ‘The Indian Express’ in 1976 and worked with the group for nearly 16 years. Nandu then joined ‘The Statesman’ in 1992 as the bureau chief. He covered a wide range of fields including politics and business and was known for his reports on economic offences.

Arvind Kejriwal led- Aam Aadmi party won 62 seats out of the total 70 seats in the Delhi assembly elections. Arvind Kejriwal is set to become the Chief Minister of Delhi for the third time. The Bharatiya Janata Party got the remaining 8 seats.
Aam Aadmi party (AAP) MLAs chose Arvind Kejriwal as the leader of the legislature party and he is set to claim to form the next government in Delhi.

Notes:
The Union Cabinet approved a proposal for capital infusion and immediate release of Rs 2,500 crore to three state-owned general insurance companies. The three public sector companies are: United India Insurance, National Insurance Company and Oriental Insurance Company.
The capital infusion is announced at the backdrop of their critical financial position and breach of regulatory solvency requirements, stipulated by the insurance regulator IRDAI. The companies are expected to be merged in this year.

Notes:
The United States has recently approved the sale of an Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS) to India. The Weapon system is to be sold for an estimated cost of $1.9 billion. India would deploy the IADWS to modernise its armed forces and enhance its air defence architecture.
The trade deal is proposed to be signed during the visit of the US President Donald Trump to India, in the month of February, 2020.

The state government of Odisha recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with HDFC Bank, to strengthen its start-ups.
Under the agreement signed between the Micro Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) department of Odisha and the bank, HDFC would lend incubation support to the start-up units of the state, so that they are able to show-case their products to various stakeholders.

India’s first inter-city electric bus service was recently inaugurated in the state of Maharashtra between Mumbai and Pune by the Union Transport minister Nitin Gadkari.
The luxury electric bus with 43-seater capacity has been manufactured by a private firm and being operated by another Maharashtra-based mobility firm. The bus would be operated twice daily between the two cities.

The Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan recently launched the mobile application called ‘Yodhavu’ (Warrior), for curbing drug menace in the state.
The Police Department of Kochi, Kerala has introduced the application, through which the public can inform police about drug abuse and distribution of drugs. The identity of the informer would be kept secret, according to the police. A cyberdom cyber crime police station was also inaugurated by the Chief Minister.
