Tech Giant Google along with consultancy firm Bain and Co. released a report titled ‘Women Entrepreneurship in India—Powering the economy with her’.
As per the report, women entrepreneurs in India can generate 150-170 million jobs by the year 2030. Nearly 16 million women-owned enterprises of India (20% of total enterprises) create direct employment for 27 million people in India.

In 2020 Laureus Sports awards, the ‘World Sportsman of the year’ award was bagged jointly by British Formula one racer Lewis Hamilton and Football icon Lionel Messi.
The Argentinean footballer Messi has become the first team-player to win the coveted award. Also, in the 20-year history of the global award, this is the first time that two players receive the same number of votes. American top gymnast Simone Biles won the ‘World Sportswoman of the year award’ and German basketball player Dirk Nowitzki won the Lifetime Achievement Award.

It was recently announced that India is set to use Euro-VI emission compliant fuels from April 1, 2020. It is the world’s cleanest petrol and diesel, which has a sulphur content of just 10 parts per million.
At present, India uses Euro-IV equivalent emission compliant fuels (Bharat Stage – IV), and in just 3 years, it has shifted to BS-VI fuel. It took seven years to switch from the third stage to fourth stage. Several states and UTs have already shifted to BS-VI grade fuels including Delhi and Haryana.

The Women’s Committee of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) recently announced that
India is selected to host the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup.
As India will have the experience of hosting the FIFA Women’s Under-17 World Cup this year, India was placed best among its competitors and won the bid to host the event.

Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan has recently announced that the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) will be created to implement the Consumer Protection Act 2019.
The Authority will be established by the first week of April this year. The Minister also announced that an investigative wing will be formed, which fill function under the authority to carry out inquiries related to unfair trade practices and deceptive advertisements. The Parliament approved ‘The Consumer Protection Bill 2019’, which replaced the Consumer Protection Act, 1986, last year.

The National Organic Food Festival was recently inaugurated in New Delhi by the Union Food Processing Industries Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani.
‘Unleashing India’s Organic Market Potential’ is the theme of the festival. Hundreds of woman entrepreneurs and different self-help groups (SHGs) from across the nation exhibit their organic products in the three-day festival.

A Singapore based cybersecurity firm reported that 98% of credit card data being sold on the dark web are of Indian customers and highlighted the use of JS sniffers. JS sniffers or JavaScript sniffers are specialized malwares that are used by cybercriminals for stealing sensitive credit card information. A recent report by Singapore based Group IB highlighted the growing use of these softwares by cybercriminals. The stolen information is then being sold on the dark web.

The insurance regulator IRDAI has set up a committee to examine whether life insurers can offer indemnity based health policies. IRDAI has now set up a nine-member committee led by MR Kumar, Chairman, Life Insurance Corporation of India to look into the issue.

Abhay Kumar Singh has been recently appointed as the Chairman & Managing Director of the Indian PSU, NHPC Limited.
He has assumed the charge of Chairman and Managing Director of the company on February 24, 2020 and will serve till the date of his superannuation. Abhay Kumar has replaced Ratish Kumar who held additional charge of the post of Chairman & Managing Director.

Union Minister of Food Processing Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal recently launched a first-of-its-kind platform called ‘Market Intelligence and Early Warning System (MIEWS) Web Portal’.
The MIEWS provides real time monitoring of prices of tomato, onion and potato, collectively known as ‘TOP’. The portal would display all relevant information related to TOP crops such as Prices and Arrivals, Area, Yield and Production etc. It would also give alerts under the terms of the Operation Greens (OG) scheme.
