The Symposium on Emerging Opportunities for Indian Textiles and Crafts was recently organised in New Delhi. The symposium was inaugurated by Union Minister of Textiles and Women and Child Development, Smriti Zubin Irani.
The national symposium was attended by officials from the Ministry of Commerce & Industry and Ministry of Textiles and representatives of Export Promotion Council.

The 10th edition of Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad (Indian Student Parliament) has commenced in New Delhi on February 20.
Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu has inaugurated the four-day event. Indian Student Parliament is a platform, which creates political awareness among students. P. Ramakrishnan, Speaker of the Kerala Legislative Assembly was awarded the Ideal Legislative Assembly Speaker award in the event.

Ahmer Khan, the 27-year-old Indian freelance reporter, was selected as the winner of the 2019 Agence France-Presse (AFP) Kate Webb Prize.
The award is named after one of the best correspondents of Agence France-Presse (AFP), an international news agency headquartered in Paris, France. He was selected for the coveted award for his coverage illustrating Kashmir during the month of August, when the special status of the region was repealed.

‘Viewpoints’ is a market research application of the tech-major Facebook. It asks user to participate in surveys, tasks and product-testing and reward them for the same.
It was in news recently as the company announced that it would financially reward the select group of users, who agree to record their voice to improvise the firm’s speech-recognition technology. The users will have to record the audio using a new programme called ‘Pronunciations’ in the application.

The two-day International Judicial Conference, 2020 was held at Supreme Court auditorium, New Delhi. The theme of the conference was ‘Judiciary and the Changing World.’

Under the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Shetkari Karjmukti Yojana announced by the MVA government of Maharashtra, in December 2019, crop loans up to Rs 2 Lakh outstanding till September 30, 2019, will be waived off.

The insurance regulator IRDAI has set up a committee to examine whether life insurers can offer indemnity based health policies. IRDAI has now set up a nine-member committee led by MR Kumar, Chairman, Life Insurance Corporation of India to look into the issue.

BIMSTEC is a regional grouping with seven countries from South and Southeast Asia including Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Myanmar. It aims to promote regional cooperation for rapid economic development.

Hrithik Roshan was awarded the Best Actor award for his film ‘Super 30’, while the movie directed by Vikas Bahl was selected as the Best Film. As per the recently released ‘Hurun Global Rich List 2020’, China is home to the highest number of billionaires of the world.
The report placed Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos in the top rank, who possesses wealth amounting to $140 bn. Microsoft Founder Bill Gates is in the third spot, while Mukesh Ambani was placed in the 9th place with $67 bn. He is the only Indian to feature in the Top-10 list and he is the richest in Asia.
