The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently approved the Phase II of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) till the financial year 2024-25.
The second phase will be implemented from 2020-21 to 2024-25, with main focus on Open Defecation Free sustainability and Solid and Liquid Waste Management, collectively called as ODF Plus. The total outlay of the scheme is Rs. 1,40,881 Crores.

The Union Cabinet of India recently approved to constitute the 22nd Law Commission of India. The term of the proposed Law Commission is three years.
The term of the previous law Commission, which was headed by Retired Justice B.S. Chauhan, ended last August. A retired Supreme Court judge or Chief Justice of a High Court will head the Law Commission, which is to advise the Union Government on complex legal issues.

Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan has recently announced that the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) will be created to implement the Consumer Protection Act 2019.
The Authority will be established by the first week of April this year. The Minister also announced that an investigative wing will be formed, which fill function under the authority to carry out inquiries related to unfair trade practices and deceptive advertisements. The Parliament approved ‘The Consumer Protection Bill 2019’, which replaced the Consumer Protection Act, 1986, last year.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) launched International Mother Language Day (IMLD) in 1991, with an objective of gaining global support for preserving the diversity of languages, with special focus on indigenous languages.
This year, UNESCO has declared ‘Languages without borders’ as the theme for International Mother Language Day 2020, celebrated on February 21. In India, the day is celebrated as Matribasha Diwas.

The first ever 2 day long tourism festival began on February 21st to commemorate the contributions of Tripura in 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. The Bharat Bangla Paryatan Utsav is a 2 day long tourism festival being organized for the first time. It is being considered as a friendship festival between India and Bangladesh. It is to highlight important tourist spots, archaeological and historic sites. The festival is being celebrated in memory of India’s contribution in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. The festival is to highlight the role of Tripura in bringing the two countries together in 1971. The festival is seen as a way to improve ties between the two neighbors. The cultural event for the festival were held in Ujjayanta Palace in Tripura. The former palace is located in Agartala and currently serves as a museum. It was constructed by Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya Debbarma and served as the home of the Manikya Dynasty.

Minister of State for Home Affairs, G Kishan Reddy on February 24, 2020 inaugurated the National Cyber Research, Innovation & Capacity Centre at CDTI campus in Hyderabad. The Centre is one of the seven verticals under Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).

Maria Sharapova, a five-time Grand Slam champion and former WTA World No.1 has recently announced her retirement from professional Tennis.
The 32-year-old Tennis icon from Russia has won 36 WTA titles and held WTA World No.1 rank for continuous 21 weeks. She won her first Grand Slam at the age of 17, when she won the Wimbledon title in 2004. She had also won her Career Grand Slam.

The Bihar Legislative Assembly recently passed a resolution to conduct a caste-based census in the state. The chief minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar proposed a caste-based census in the Assembly and it was passed unanimously.
The Speaker of the state assembly announced that the proposal has been passed and the resolution would be sent to the central government.
