Neelam Meena Becomes West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer
Neelam Meena, an Indian Administrative Service officer of the 1998 batch from the West Bengal cadre, was appointed Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal on 25 May 2026. She became the first woman to hold the office of Chief Electoral Officer in West Bengal. The appointment was made by the Election Commission of India.

The Chief Electoral Officer is the senior election administration officer in a state under the framework of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 and the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The office functions under the supervision of the Election Commission of India and coordinates electoral rolls, polling arrangements, and election-related administration at the state level.

Neelam Meena replaced Manoj Kumar Agarwal, who was elevated to the post of Chief Secretary of West Bengal. The West Bengal government had sent a panel of three Indian Administrative Service officers for the selection of the new CEO, including Tanmay Chakrabarty of the 2006 batch and Moumita Godara Basu of the 2007 batch.
