Microsoft Launches Fourth India Cloud Region in Hyderabad

Microsoft announced the general availability of its fourth cloud region in India on 6 August 2026. The new facility, named the India South Central region, is located in Hyderabad, Telangana, and adds to Microsoft’s cloud regions in Pune, Chennai and Mumbai.

Microsoft Cloud Regions in India

Microsoft’s Hyderabad region is part of its hyperscale cloud infrastructure in India. A cloud region is a geographic area that contains multiple datacentres and supports cloud computing services such as storage, networking, databases and artificial intelligence workloads. Microsoft now operates four cloud regions in India, which places it among the major global cloud providers with local infrastructure in the country.

Hyderabad Datacentre Features

The Hyderabad facility has three availability zones. Availability zones are physically separate datacentre locations within a cloud region that are designed for higher resilience and workload continuity. The region is intended for enterprise workloads, sovereign-ready AI applications and other mission-critical digital services. The datacentre uses air-cooled chillers and requires zero water for cooling. This design aligns with Microsoft’s global water-positive target for 2030, which is a corporate sustainability commitment linked to water replenishment and efficiency.

Investment and Enterprise Adoption

Microsoft’s India and AI infrastructure expansion forms part of a cumulative 20.5 billion investment commitment for India. This total includes a 3 billion investment announced in January 2025 and a further $17.5 billion commitment made in December 2025. Major Indian enterprises, including Adani Group, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finserv and PB Pay, have signed on as early customers for the Hyderabad cloud region. Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India and South Asia, linked the expansion with Microsoft’s AI-first infrastructure strategy in India.
