Indian Railways Approves ₹381 Crore Kavach Projects

Indian Railways approved two infrastructure projects worth ₹381 crore on 10 July 2026 for railway safety and maintenance works. The projects include Kavach Version 4.0 deployment across 680 route kilometres in the Delhi Division of Northern Railway and additional homing facilities for electric locomotives at Raipur under South East Central Railway.

Kavach System

Kavach is India’s indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection system. It is designed to prevent Signal Passed at Danger incidents and train collisions, and it supports safer train movement on high-density routes.

Project Details

The ₹206 crore Kavach project covers the Rewari-Delhi and Shakurbasti-Bathinda sections, including feeder branch lines. The ₹175 crore project provides additional homing facilities for 250 three-phase electric locomotives at the High Horse Power Diesel Shed in Raipur.

Railway Safety and Network Expansion

Kavach deployment forms part of the nationwide expansion of railway safety technology across strategically important routes. As of March 2026, 3,103 route kilometres had been equipped with Kavach, and further deployment projects were mentioned for the Ambala and Ahmedabad Divisions in June 2026.
