India Sends Largest Business Delegation to Canada

India sent its largest-ever business and investment delegation to Canada for trade talks from 25 May to 27 May 2026. The delegation is led by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and includes more than 100 senior business representatives from multiple sectors.

Delegation Composition

The delegation includes representatives from energy, infrastructure, technology, manufacturing, investment, innovation, mining, automotive, and aerospace. Some accounts place the size of the delegation at about 150 Indian industry leaders. The visit covers Ottawa and Toronto in Canada.

Trade and Investment Agenda

The main agenda of the visit is the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between India and Canada. The talks also focus on business linkages between Indian and Canadian firms. India and Canada have set a target of doubling bilateral trade to CAD 70 billion by 2030.

Key Meetings in Canada

Piyush Goyal is scheduled to meet Canada’s Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu, Prime Minister Mark Carney, and Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand. These meetings are part of the effort to fast-track CEPA negotiations.

India-Canada Economic Context

Bilateral trade between India and Canada stood at about 8.5 billion in FY25. During Mark Carney’s visit to India in March 2026, both countries signed deals worth 5.5 billion in energy, critical minerals, technology, artificial intelligence, and defence.
