The central government has given its approval for a groundbreaking metro project that aims to revolutionize connectivity in Gurugram. The project, which will connect Huda City Centre to Gurugram’s Cyber City with a spur to Dwarka Expressway, is set to become a game-changer for the region.

Cost and Distance Covered

The new metro project comes with a substantial budget of ₹5,452 crore, highlighting the significance and scale of the endeavor. It will cover a distance of 28.5 km, providing an extensive network that will enhance connectivity and transportation options for residents and commuters alike.

Impressive Number of Railway Stations

In its journey, the new metro project will pass through an impressive total of 27 railway stations. This comprehensive coverage ensures that various areas and neighborhoods along the route will benefit from improved access to transportation facilities and enhanced mobility.

Implementation and Contributions

Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Ltd. (HMRTC) has been entrusted with the implementation of this transformative project. The central government has allocated a significant contribution of Rs. 896.19 crore, while the Haryana government will provide Rs. 1,432.49 crore. This collaborative effort demonstrates a strong commitment to the development and progress of the region’s infrastructure.

Standard Gauge for Efficiency

The metro project will be a fully elevated system with a standard gauge of 1435 mm (5 ft 8.5 inches). This gauge size ensures efficiency and compatibility with existing metro networks, facilitating seamless connectivity and ease of travel for passengers.

Projected Timeline

The completion of the new metro project is expected within a span of four years. This relatively short timeline demonstrates the government’s commitment to expedite the development of this vital infrastructure, enabling residents to experience the benefits of enhanced connectivity at the earliest.

Proposed Setup and Benefits

The implementation of the project will be carried out through Harayana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Limited (HMRTC), which will serve as a 50:50 Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) jointly owned by the Government of India and the Government of Haryana. This setup ensures efficient coordination and streamlined execution of the project.

The new metro project brings a multitude of advantages to the region. It will connect New Gurugram with Old Gurugram, bridging the gap between different parts of the city and enabling seamless travel for residents and visitors. Additionally, the metro network will provide convenient connectivity to Indian Railway stations, further enhancing intermodal transportation options. Future plans also include extending the network to connect to the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport, an important step in improving air-rail connectivity. Lastly, the project is poised to stimulate overall economic development in the area, attracting investments and fostering growth.
