Government Launches Revamped India Code Portal

The revamped India Code Portal was launched on 13 August 2026 at Kartavya Bhavan 2 in New Delhi by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal. The portal provides digital access to the Constitution, Central Acts, and other legislative documents for citizens, legal professionals, researchers, and government departments.

India Code Portal

India Code is the official digital repository of Indian legislation maintained by the Legislative Department. It contains the Constitution of India, Central Acts, subordinate legislation, and related legal texts in a searchable format.

Search and Access Features

The upgraded portal includes AI-assisted search, semantic search, and speech-based search. It also supports multilingual access to laws in all 22 languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

Digital Legal Infrastructure

The portal has been integrated with the e-Gazette ecosystem, QR-enabled access, and a citizen feedback mechanism. It also allows users to trace legislative history, track amendments, and view links between primary Acts and subordinate legislation.

• The Eighth Schedule of the Constitution originally listed 14 languages and now includes 22 languages.
• The National Informatics Centre was established in 1976 and functions under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

Institutional Support

The Legislative Department, the National Informatics Centre, and the IndiaAI Mission were involved in the technical development of the portal. The Attorney General for India, R. Venkataramani, and Legislative Department Secretary Dr. Rajiv Mani attended the launch event.
