Non-Nuclear Aggression Agreement

In the previous document, we have studied the basic features of foreign policies of Prime Ministers before Rajiv Gandhi. The foreign policy of Rajiv Gandhi was otherwise successful except one grey spot i.e. sending Indian Peace Keeping Force to Sri Lanka. Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure should also be remember for its first “nuclear” treaty with Pakistan called Non-Nuclear Aggression Agreement (NNAA) under which both countries agreed to reduce nuclear arms and pledged not to attack or assist foreign powers to attack on each’s nuclear installations and facilities. This treaty also barred the two countries to carry out a surprise attack on each other’s nuclear installations.
