Filmmaker Nandita Das will be honoured with the International Federation of Film Producers Associations( FIAPF) Award 2018 at the 12th Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) in Brisbane on the 29th of November. She will be presented the award in recognition of her achievement in film in the Asia Pacific region. Nandita Das who started her career as an actor in films like “1947 Earth”, “Fire” and “Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa” also made her directorial debut with the critically-acclaimed feature “Firaaq”.

Israeli filmmaker Dan Wolman has been honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 49th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2018 in Panaji, Goa on November 20. This year, Israel is the Country of Focus while the State in Focus is Jharkhand. This is for the first time that any state has been made focus state at the festival. As part of IFFI, a special package for visually impaired children, special screening with audio description was organized for the children. The festival showcased the movies ‘Sholay and Hichki’ under this section. This year, there will be a special presentation of Tunisian films.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has developed a new technology to assess the rise of water level in rivers and reservoirs by rain. The technology, called ‘Impact Based Forecasting Approach’, which shows pre-event scenario, can help state governments to minutely monitor the impact of rain and take real-time decisions.

Recently, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik released the Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup-2018 anthem in the presence of music director A R Rahman here who has composed the music for it. The lyrics for the Hockey World Cup anthem ‘Jai Hind, Jai India’ have been penned by well known lyricist Gulzar. The 14th edition of the tournament will be held at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar from 28 November to 16 December, 2018. Apart from this, Turtle Olly was declared the official mascot of 2018 tournament at the Puri sea beach in Odisha. Alongside the promotion of the event, the mascot aims to raise awareness about the conservation of the Olive Ridley turtle, which is said to be on the verge of extinction in the state of Odisiha.

The 12th World Congress on Mountain Medicine 2018 has started in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal on November 21. The theme of 4 day congress is “Mountain Medicine in the Heart of the Himalayas”. The biennial event mainly focuses on science and research aspects of high altitude medicine. It will also include practical workshops related to trekking, expedition medicine and clinical education. More than 400 participants from 40 countries, including India, China, Japan, USA, England and Italy are attending the congress. The flagship event of the International Society for Mountain Medicine (ISMM) is being held first time in Nepal and hosted by Mountain Medicine Society of Nepal.
