Food Ministry, FCI Sign MoU for Operational Efficiency

The Department of Food and Public Distribution and the Food Corporation of India signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Financial Year 2026–27 in New Delhi on 8 September 2026. The agreement covers foodgrain management, storage efficiency, logistics, digital monitoring, and employee capacity-building in the public distribution system.

Depot-level targets are linked to the Depot Darpan Portal, which is a web-based platform for assessing depot infrastructure and operational efficiency. The framework uses measurable benchmarks for performance review at the depot level.

Storage Losses and Transit Efficiency

Storage losses and transit losses are key indicators in foodgrain logistics and public procurement systems. Transit losses in the Food Corporation of India have been recorded at 0.17% of 40.38 million tonnes of foodgrains transported in FY26, compared with 1.67% in 1990.

Such figures are used in administrative review of handling, transport, and warehousing systems in large-scale food distribution networks. They are also relevant for questions on food security administration and public sector logistics.
