Sri Lanka has received the first consignment of 3.1 million litres high quality non-harmful Nano Nitrogen liquid fertiliser from India.
This will help Sri Lanka in the cultivation of maize and paddy. The country’s President Rajapaksa had decided to impose a total ban on agrochemicals, to make Sri Lankan farming 100% organic. This decision to stop chemical fertiliser imports led to several protests among farmers.

Every year, the Uttar Pradesh state conducts State-level Sugarcane competition to award farmers for high yield per hectare.
This year, a farmer from western Uttar Pradesh has won the State cane competition with a sugarcane yield of 2,635 quintal per hectare. The award is given in four categories namely: ratoon, early plant, general plant and drip irrigation.

Imprisoned Russian Opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been awarded the European Union’s top human rights prize- the Sakharov Prize.
The European Parliament praised the 45-year-old activist’s immense personal bravery. He was poisoned with a nerve agent last year and arrested and imprisoned. He has campaigned consistently against the corruption of Russia’s ruling government.

The UN En­v­­i­ron­ment Programme (UNEP), along with the leading rese­a­r­ch institutes released the 2021 Production Gap Report.
The report measures the gap between governments’ plan­ned production of coal, oil, and gas and the global production levels consistent with meeting Paris Agreement limits. As per the new report, governments plan to produce more than double the amount of fossil fuels in 2030 than the consistent level to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

Mount Aso is the largest active volcano in Japan, and is one of the largest in the world. It is located in the island of Kyushu, and its peak is located 1,592 meters above sea level.
Japan’s Mount Aso volcano recently erupted, spewing a huge column of hot gas and ash over 3,500 metres into the sky. Japan’s meteorological agency raised alert level for the volcano to level 3 on a scale of 5, and asked people not to approach the mountain.
