The US Navy has launched a ship named after a gay rights activist, who was forced to resign from the service because of his sexuality in the 1950s.
The USNS Harvey Milk was launched in San Diego. It is one of six new ships to be named after famed US civil rights leaders. Other ships were named after former Chief Justice Earl Warren and slain presidential candidate Robert Kennedy.

The Delhi government started spraying water on roads using anti-smog water tanks, a day after the national capital’s pollution level rose alarmingly.
Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) announced that the air quality index (AQI) rose to the ‘severe’ category, measuring 533. The Government also banned 92 construction sites for violating norms.

As per a recent data, over 33 lakh children in India are malnourished and more than half of them are in the severely malnourished category.
The Ministry also announced that Maharashtra, Bihar and Gujarat top the States with severely malnourished children. There are 17.76 lakh severely acute malnourished children (SAM) and 15.46 lakh moderately acute malnourished children.

Wang Yaping became the first Chinese woman to walk in space, as her team completed a six-hour stint outside the Tiangong space station.
Tiangong, which means “heavenly palace”, is the latest achievement of China, after landing a rover on Mars and sending probes to the Moon. Its core module entered orbit earlier this year, with the space station expected to be operational by 2022.

The Supreme Court expressed dissatisfaction over the investigation in the cases relating to the incidents that happened in Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3.
The Court also proposed to appoint a retired judge to oversee the probe till the charge-sheet is filed. Eight people, including four farmers, were killed in violence during a farmers’ protest in Lakhimpur Kheri. Justice Hima Kohli of the Bench suggested the names of Justice (retired) Ranjit Singh from Punjab and Haryana High Court and J Rakesh Kumar Jain.
