Bharat EMart Portal

India Post, Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), and Tripta Technologies have created the ‘Bharat eMart’ portal, which will provide pick-up and delivery services of consignments to traders across India. The MoU was signed in Delhi on recently in the presence of Minister of State for Communications, Devusinh Chauhan.

Significance for small traders

The ‘Bharat eMart’ portal is expected to provide much needed logistics support to small traders in India, which will increase their businesses and employment opportunities. It is estimated to benefit eight crore traders associated with CAIT.

Other agreements

India Post has also entered into similar agreements with Government e-Marketplace (GeM) and Regional Centers of Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited (TRIFED) in the recent past. It is presently looking to become a logistics service provider on the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) platform that is being developed by the Ministry of Commerce.

Services provided by India Post

India Post provides several services besides pick-up and delivery of parcels, including banking, insurance, and last mile delivery of benefits of several welfare schemes run by the government. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Department of Posts introduced digital payments and online services through technology induction.
