Babylon

Babylon

Babylon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Iraq. It is a 4,000 year old city which served as the capital of the ancient Babylonian empire. It finds numerous mentions in the Bible and was the source of the ‘Code of Hammurabi’, an early record of laws and punishment. Many of its significant archaeological pieces like the Ishtar Gate were carted off to Europe about a century ago. Despite conservation efforts, like the World Monument Fund, the site is a state of disrepair.
