20 MTPD Curd and Lassi Plant Launched in Bihar

A modern 20 Metric Tonne Per Day (MTPD) curd and lassi processing plant was launched at the Biharsharif Dairy Project in Nalanda, Bihar, on 27 July 2026. The foundation stone was laid by Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary for the plant, which is linked to COMFED’s flagship dairy brand, Sudha.

Curd and Lassi Processing in Dairy Sector

Curd and lassi are value-added dairy products made from milk through fermentation and processing. Curd is produced by bacterial fermentation of milk, while lassi is a yoghurt-based drink prepared in sweet or salted form in India.

COMFED and Sudha Brand

COMFED stands for the Bihar State Milk Cooperative Federation. It operates the Sudha brand, which covers milk and milk products in Bihar and neighbouring markets. The new plant is designed to expand the production capacity of curd and lassi under this cooperative network.

The Biharsharif Dairy Project is located in Nalanda district, which is part of central Bihar. The project is associated with the cooperative dairy structure that links milk procurement, processing, packaging, and distribution through federation-level operations.
