World Radiography Day

Every year, the World Radiography Day is celebrated on November 8. It marks the anniversary of the discovery of X-Rays. The day is celebrated to raise awareness about radiographic imaging.

About World Radiography Day

The day is celebrated to commemorate the discovery of X-rays. The X-rays were discovered on November 8, 1895. They were discovered by a German scientist, Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen. He was the inaugural winner of Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901.

Objective

The main objective of celebrating the day is to increase public awareness of radiographic therapy and imaging. The day also promotes radiography as a career.

History

The first World Radiography Day was celebrated in 2012. It was celebrated by Radiological Society of North America, European Society of Radiology and American College of Radiology. Earlier to this, the European Day of Radiology was celebrated on February 10, 2011. This coincided with the death anniversary of Wilhelm Rontgen. Rontgen died in February 10, 1923.

World Radiography Day in India

In India, the World Radiography Day is celebrated by the Radiographers Association of Madhya Pradesh. It is being observed since 1996.
