US-Taiwan Coast Guard Cooperation Agreement

US-Taiwan Coast Guard Cooperation Agreement is a bilateral pact between the US and Taiwan aimed at enhancing the cooperation between the countries’ coast guards. The objective was to counter China’s increasingly aggressive maritime posturing. A working group is to be set up to improve communications, cooperation and information sharing between the countries’ coast guards. It comes as a counter to China’s use of coast guards and civilian fishing militias to claim maritime territories.
