United States to Host Inaugural Women’s Club World Cup
The United States will host the inaugural FIFA Women’s Club World Cup from 5 to 30 January 2028. FIFA announced the host nation on 22 October 2026. The competition will bring together 19 top-tier women’s clubs from the six continental football confederations.
Women’s Club World Cup Format
The tournament is a global competition for women’s football clubs, rather than national teams. The inaugural edition will feature 19 clubs drawn from the six continental confederations: the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Confederation of African Football (CAF), Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) and Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).
FIFA is the international governing body of association football and also governs futsal and beach soccer. FIFA organises international football competitions, including the men’s and women’s World Cups.
Continental Representation
The allocation provides three places each to AFC, CAF, CONCACAF and CONMEBOL, one place to OFC, and six places to UEFA. These allocations total 19 participating clubs. Seven clubs have already secured places: Arsenal of England, Club America Femenil of Mexico, Barcelona of Spain, Gotham of the United States, Naegohyang of North Korea, Corinthians of Brazil and Wuhan Jiangda of China.
The confederations represent football associations across Asia, Africa, North and Central America and the Caribbean, South America, Oceania, and Europe. The club allocations therefore draw participants from all six continental confederations.
Tournament Calendar
FIFA initially planned to hold the inaugural competition in 2026, but postponed it by two years. The January 2028 dates fall after the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup and before the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. FIFA cited the United States’ experience in hosting its tournaments, its infrastructure and services, and interest in women’s football as reasons for selecting the host.
