UNDP, DAY-NULM Collaborate to Empower Women Entrepreneurs

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM) have joined forces to uplift women in entrepreneurship. This strategic partnership aims to provide support and create better career opportunities for women in various sectors.

Supporting Women Entrepreneurs

The UNDP and DAY-NULM collaboration is focused on empowering women entrepreneurs across different sectors. The partnership aims to provide support in areas such as the care economy, digital economy, electric mobility, waste management, food packaging, and more. By targeting these sectors, the initiative aims to enhance the representation of women and their impact on the economy.

Expanding to Eight Cities

In the initial phase of the project, the partnership will cover eight cities. This geographical expansion demonstrates the commitment to reach and support women entrepreneurs in diverse urban settings. By targeting different cities, the initiative aims to create a widespread impact and empower women across various regions.

Addressing the Gender Gap

Currently, the percentage of women entrepreneurs in India stands at 15%. Increasing this number holds numerous benefits for society. By encouraging more women to venture into entrepreneurship, the initiative aims to alleviate poverty, promote financial independence, reshape gender norms, and drive economic growth. It is a step towards a more inclusive and prosperous society.

UNDP’s National-Level Support

UNDP will play a crucial role in providing national-level capacity-building support to DAY-NULM. This support includes knowledge generation, compilation of best practices, and enhancing the implementation of national-level schemes. Through this collaboration, UNDP brings its extensive experience in linking over 200,000 women to improved employment opportunities.

Piloting Innovative Solutions

UNDP and DAY-NULM will work together to pilot innovative solutions, particularly in the care economy. These pilot projects aim to test new approaches and strategies that can further empower women entrepreneurs. By leveraging their sectoral expertise, the organizations aim to create a supportive environment for women to thrive and succeed.

On-Ground Mobilization

The partnership involves on-ground mobilization activities to identify areas of urban poverty and potential entrepreneurs. Through these activities, the initiative aims to facilitate access to Business Development Services. It involves engaging with women entrepreneurs and providing them with the necessary resources, guidance, and support to flourish in their businesses.

Formalizing Businesses and Securing Access

Participating entrepreneurs will receive handholding support to formalize their businesses, establish bank linkages, and secure access to finance and markets. This comprehensive support system aims to enable women entrepreneurs to overcome challenges and establish successful enterprises. It promotes their economic independence and contributes to their personal growth.
