Suryapath Tiranga Completes Global Tricolour Relay

The Indian government’s “Suryapath Tiranga” global relay completed its journey on 15 August 2026 across 54 Indian diplomatic missions and posts in 54 countries. The 19-hour relay was organised under the “Har Ghar Tiranga 2026” campaign to mark India’s 80th Independence Day.

Suryapath Tiranga and the Tricolour

Suryapath Tiranga was a coordinated flag-hoisting relay that moved from east to west following the path of the rising sun. The Indian national flag, also called the Tricolour, has three horizontal bands of saffron, white, and green, with the Ashoka Chakra in navy blue at the centre.

Diplomatic Missions and Time Zones

The relay linked Indian missions and posts across multiple time zones, beginning in the Pacific and ending on the American west coast. The sequence included locations in Asia, West Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America.

• The relay began at 1:30 AM IST in Suva, Fiji, where the Indian High Commissioner hoisted the national flag at India House.
• Flag hoistings were held in New Zealand, Australia, Japan, South Korea, China, Indonesia, Singapore, and the Maldives.
• The relay reached Pretoria at 12:30 PM IST, Riga at 12:45 PM IST, Reykjavik at 3:00 PM IST, and London during the UK leg of the celebrations.
• The final stop was the Indian Consulate in San Francisco, where the relay concluded around 8:30 PM IST.

The Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of External Affairs were associated with the initiative. Vivek Aggarwal served as Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, and Randhir Jaiswal served as Additional Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs.
