SpaceX Launch of Visitors to Space Station

SpaceX has launched three rich businessmen along with their astronaut escorts to the International Space Station on 8th April 2022. They will be staying in the space station for more than a week.

Overview:

  • NASA has joined Russia to host guests at the International Space Station (ISS).
  • This is SpaceX’s first private charter flight to the ISS, two years after carrying NASA astronauts to the space station.
  • After years of opposing space visitors, NASA has finally agreed to allow visitors to the ISS.

About the visitors

The visitors to the space station are Canadian, American, and Israeli businessmen running a real estate, investment, and other companies. They have shelled out USD 55 million per head for the ride and accommodations, including meals. The visitors can access all but the Russian portion of the ISS and they will be needing permission from the three cosmonauts on board to visit this section. Axiom Space company has arranged this in association with NASA for Mark Pathy, founder and CEO of Montreal’s Mavrik Corp.; Larry Connor of Dayton, Connor Group, Ohio; and Eytan Stibbe, founding partner of Vital Capital, Israel.

Hosting of tourists by Russia

For decades, Russia has been hosting tourists at the ISS and before that the Mir station. Last year, a Russian movie crew flew up to the space station and they were followed by a Japanese fashion tycoon along with his assistant.
