Shankaracharya Jayanti holds great importance for Hindus since it commemorates the birth anniversary of Adi Shankaracharya, an Indian Guru and philosopher. It is celebrated with great grandeur and devotion, and in 2023, it falls on April 25th. This year, Shankaracharya will be 1235 years old.

Early Life of Adi Shankaracharya

Adi Shankaracharya was born in a small village in Kerala named Kaldi in 788 CE. His parents were mother Aryamba and father Sivaguru. He was also known as Jagadguru, which means a teacher who imparts knowledge to the whole world.

Adi Shankaracharya’s Teachings

Adi Shankaracharya always preached about Vedik knowledge and its importance. He introduced the Panchkayatna form of worship, which involves worshipping the five deities: Lord Shiva, Goddess, Lord Vishnu, Lord Surya, and Lord Ganesha. He was an expert in the Vedas and had mastered them by the age of sixteen. He wrote many scriptures, books, and stotram to spread the awareness of Hindu religion and spirituality.

Shankaracharya Jayanti holds great importance among Hindus, and it is considered a sacred day. On this day, devotees celebrate the birth anniversary of Adi Shankaracharya with great grandeur. According to the Hindu lunar calendar, Shankaracharya was born on Panchami Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaishakha.

The Four Maths Founded by Adi Shankaracharya

Adi Shankaracharya founded four Maths in all four directions to spread awareness and knowledge about the religion and spirituality. These Maths are Shringeri Math, Govardhan Math, Sharda Math, and Jyotir Math. He selected his most loyal and close disciples to become the head of the Math and run them for the benefit of people who belong to the Hindu religion. The heads of the Maths are responsible for spreading awareness and knowledge about the Vedas, Upnishads, and other holy scriptures.

Sanatan Dharma and Hindu Scriptures

Sanatan Dharma is based on the Vedas, which are considered the oldest and most sacred scriptures of Hinduism. These Vedas are Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda, and Atharvaveda. Hindu scriptures mention that once people were deprived of holiness and spirituality, and all the deities decided to seek help from Lord Shiva. He promised them that he would be born as Adi Shankaracharya to enlighten people’s lives with the ultimate truth of life.
