Sainik Welfare, Assam Contributes Rs 25 Lakh to CM’s Relief Fund

The Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Assam contributed Rs 25 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund on 29 July 2026. The cheque was presented to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for relief and rehabilitation work for families affected by floods in Upper Assam.

Chief Minister’s Relief Fund

The Chief Minister’s Relief Fund is a state-level fund used in India for emergency assistance, disaster relief, and rehabilitation. State governments in India maintain such funds for immediate support during floods, cyclones, landslides, fires, and other natural calamities.

Directorate of Sainik Welfare

The Directorate of Sainik Welfare functions under the welfare framework for ex-servicemen, war widows, and dependants in India. Sainik welfare organisations in states coordinate assistance, pensions, rehabilitation support, and liaison with civil administration for veterans and their families.

Veterans and flood relief in Assam

Brigadier Polash Chowdhury, SM (Retd), headed the delegation that handed over the cheque. Air Marshal Anjan Kumar Gogoi, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd), and Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM (Retd), also accompanied him during the contribution.
