Steven Spielberg’s film The Fabelmans won the prestigious People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2022.
It is one of the most celebrated and semi-autobiographical film. TIFF People’s Choice Documentary Award was won by ‘Black Ice’ directed by Hubert Davis. TIFF People’s Choice Midnight Madness Award was won by ‘Weird: The Al Yankovic Story’, directed by Eric Appel.

Netflix India, in collaboration with the Information & Broadcasting Ministry, has released a series of short video series under an initiative called ‘Azadi Ki Amrit Kahaniya’, highlighting the role of women achievers. As part of a broader partnership, the global OTT platform will also conduct workshops and masterclasses for the skill development of Indian filmmakers.

Actor Jennifer Lopez is selected for her film and television achievements at the MTV Movie & TV Awards.
The Generation Award celebrates actors whose diverse contributions in both film and television have turned them into household names. Previous recipients include Scarlett Johansson, Dwayne Johnson, Tom Cruise, Will Smith among others. Jack Black will receive the Comedic Genius Award.

The 90-second trailer of the feature film on ‘Mujib – The Making of a Nation’ directed by Shri Shyam Benegal was released recently.
The Ministry of Information Broadcasting, Government of India and the Ministry of Information Broadcasting, Government of Bangladesh are producers of the film. National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) of India and Bangladesh’s Film Development Corporation (FDC) signed the Agreement for the film on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 2020.

The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) has produced the images of the black hole named Sagittarius A * and the black hole at the center of the galaxy M87.
The Telescope is ready to capture movies of gas flowing turbulently onto a black hole. Researchers hope such movies will show the evolution of black hole as the churning of a black hole is not usually captured in images.

Bandit Queen is a 1994 Indian biographical film based on the life of Phoolan Devi as covered in the book India’s Bandit Queen: The True Story of Phoolan Devi by the Indian author Mala Sen. It was directed by Shekhar Kapur and starred Seema Biswas as the title character.

In the 94th Academy Awards, Sian Heder’s ‘CODA’ created history by becoming the first movie from a major streaming service to win an Oscar for best picture.
Will Smith was declared the best actor for ‘King Richard,’ and Jessica Chastain won the best actress award.  Ariana DeBose created history by becoming the first queer woman of colour to bag the award for the film ‘West Side Story’.

2. Raja Harishchandra – 3 May 1913 – The first full-length Indian feature film and Marathi feature film
3. Alam Ara – 14 March 1931 – The first Indian talking film.

‘Koozhangal’ from India won the best film award in the Asian Film Competition section at the 20th Dhaka International Film Festival. It was directed by P S Vinothraj from Tamil Nadu.
Best Actor Award went to Jayasurya for Ranjith Sankar-directed film Sunny. The Best Script Writer Award went to Indranil Roychowdhury and Sugata Sinha for India-Bangladesh film Mayar Jonjal. The special audience award was given to Aimee Baruah Directed film Semkhor. India won 4 out of 17 awards.
