‘Donbass’ directed by Sergei Loznitsa has won the coveted Golden Peacock Award at the 49th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), which concluded in Goa on November 28, 2018.

• The Golden Peacock Award carries a cash prize of Rs 4 million (Rs 40 lakhs) to be shared equally between the Producer and the Director, Trophy and the citation.
• Donbass is the official submission of Ukraine for the ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ category at the 91st Academy Awards in 2019.

Written and directed by James Cameron, Titanic was the first film to reach the billion-dollar mark.

The Delhi High Court in January 2019 allowed the release of the movie ‘72 Hours – Martyr who never died,’ based on the life of the 1962 war hero Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat. Rawat was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra for gallantry during the 1962 war.

Little Terrorist (2004) is a Hindi, Bangla, and Urdu film nominated for Best Live Action Short Film. Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India (2001) is a period drama nominated for Best Foreign Language Film. Salaam Bombay (1988) portrays children in Mumbai slums and was also nominated for Best Foreign Language Film.

The 53rd edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) concluded recently. Spanish film ‘I have electric dreams’ directed by Valentina Maurel won the Golden Peacock award.
Vahid Mobasseri, the lead actor of No End, was honoured with Silver Peacock for Best Actor (Male), while Daniela Marin Navarro, lead Actor of Best Film I Have Electric Dreams was honoured with Silver Peacock for Best Actor (Female). Iranian writer and director Nader Saeivar got Silver Peacock for Best Director for No End. France was the ‘Spotlight’ country this year.

Legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray’s film ‘Pather Panchali’ has been declared the best Indian film of all time by the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI).
The classic film which was released in 1955 has topped the list of top ten films in the history of Indian cinema list. ‘Pather Panchali’ was Satyajit Ray’s directorial debut was based on Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay’s 1929 Bengali novel of the same name.

Steven Spielberg’s film The Fabelmans won the prestigious People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2022.
It is one of the most celebrated and semi-autobiographical film. TIFF People’s Choice Documentary Award was won by ‘Black Ice’ directed by Hubert Davis. TIFF People’s Choice Midnight Madness Award was won by ‘Weird: The Al Yankovic Story’, directed by Eric Appel.

Netflix India, in collaboration with the Information & Broadcasting Ministry, has released a series of short video series under an initiative called ‘Azadi Ki Amrit Kahaniya’, highlighting the role of women achievers. As part of a broader partnership, the global OTT platform will also conduct workshops and masterclasses for the skill development of Indian filmmakers.
