Notes:
The Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das recently announced that the central bank has decided to roll over (extend) the Rs 15000 Crore refinance facility provided to SIDBI (Small Industries Development Bank of India).
The roll over is to be provided for 90 more days, from the at the end of the 90th day. RBI also announced to extend a line of credit of Rs 15,000 crore to the EXIM Bank for a period of 90 days from the date of availing, with rollover up to a maximum period of one year. EXIM Bank will use this to avail US dollar swap facility for its forex requirement.

Every year, the World Turtle Day is observed on May 23, across the world. The day is celebrated to sensitise people about turtle and tortoise and their vulnerable habitats.
A non-profit organization called American Tortoise Rescue (ATR), that was established in 1990 leads the World Turtle Day celebration since 2000. The Al Ain Zoo of Abu Dhabi, which has ten types of turtles celebrated ‘World Turtle Day’ and called for global action to conserve turtles.

The Mizoram Cabinet has recently granted industry status to sports, amidst the gradual lifting of lock-down, following the sports policy in many countries.
This decision is expected to promote employment generation in the state. This was announced by the state’s Chief Minister Zoramthanga. The Sports and Youth Services department had advised the State government to grant the status. Mizoram has a good group of Football players who represent several important clubs.

Australian tennis legend Ashley Cooper, who won four Grand Slam singles titles in the 1950s, has recently passed away due to illness at the age of 83.
Ashley Cooper won the Australian Open, Wimbledon and U.S. Grand slam in the year 1958, and achieved the rare feat of winning three Grand Slam championships in a calendar year. He won all four of his Grand Slam crowns by beating his fellow countrymen in the final. He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1991.

World Metrology Day is celebrated every year on May 20, that commemorates the signature of the Metre Convention on 20 May 1875 by representatives of 17 countries.
This year, the theme for World Metrology Day 2020 is ‘Measurements for global trade’. The theme was chosen to create awareness of the role of measurement in facilitating fair global trade, ensuring standards and regulations of products.

Bev Q, a virtual queue management application developed by a Kochi-based start-up Faircode Technologies, has recently been approved by Google after two-level testing. This is to be implemented to manage queues of liquor shops.
The state government of Kerala announced that liquor shops would not be opened until a queue management system is implemented. The staff working at the shops are being trained through online and video tutorials in coordination with the Kerala State Beverages Corporation.

Narmada Basin Projects Company Ltd. (NBPCL) is a wholly-owned company of Madhya Pradesh government. Central PSU under Ministry of Power, Power Finance Corporation (PFC) has recently partnered with NBPCL to fund projects worth ₹22,000 crore in Madhya Pradesh.
Hydroelectric projects and power components of 12 major multipurpose projects are to be set up by deploying the funds. Major multipurpose projects, which are to be financed include Basaniya Multipurpose Project, Chinki Boras Multipurpose Project Dudhi Project, among others.

Former Deputy Economy Minister of Brazil, Marcos Prado Troyjo has been selected as the new President of the Shanghai-based New Development Bank’s (NDB).
He is to replace the veteran Indian banker KV Kamath as the President of the multilateral financial institution set up by the BRICS countries. Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman attended the special board of Governors of NDB meeting through video-conference. Another Indian Anil Kishora was selected as the Vice President of NDB during the conference.

Every year, May 28 has been celebrated as the World Menstrual Hygiene Day across the world. It is a global platform initiated by the German non-profit organisation WASH United.
This year, the theme of Menstrual Hygiene Day is ‘Periods in Pandemic’. Several government agencies, individuals, non-profits and media join hands to create awareness about the safe menstruation practices and hygiene management.

Notes:
Manushi Chillar, who won the title of Miss World in 2017 has joined hands with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to spread awareness about menstrual hygiene.
Manushi runs an initiative on menstrual hygiene named Project Shakti. With this partnership, she will promote the efforts to educate girls about menstrual hygiene and to construct sanitation facilities. On May 28, World Menstrual Hygiene Day, she participated in UNICEF global initiative called the Red Dot Challenge.
