Veteran in Indian Steel Industry, CEO of Arcelor Mittal Nippon Steel India, Dilip Oommen took over as the President of the Indian Steel Association (ISA).
Earlier, T V Narendran the Managing director of Tata Steel, resigned from the post of President of ISA. An extra-ordinary board meeting decided the unanimous appointment of Dilip Oommen as the President for the next two years.

The Union Cabinet has approved an additional funding of up to Rs 3 lakh crore through the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) for the MSME sector.
The Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that are hit hard by the coronavirus crisis will be granted an emergency credit at the rate of 9.25 per cent. 100 per cent guarantee coverage will be provided by National Credit Guarantee Trustee Company (NCGTC) for eligible MSMEs and MUDRA borrowers, in the form of a guaranteed emergency credit line (GECL) facility.

Union Environment Minister, Prakash Javadekar has recently launched National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) -UNDP India’s Biodiversity Samrakshan Internship Programme. It is a one-year internship program for post-graduate students interested in bio-diversity.
He has launched this scheme during the virtual celebration of International Day for Biological Diversity. He also launched several important documents including ‘Awareness campaign material on air, pollination and securing our future’, ‘UNEP Endangered Species Campaign’, ‘Brochure of Webinar Series on Biodiversity Conservation’ and a ‘Model Conference of Parties’.

The Ministry of Electronics and IT has recently integrated seven services of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) services on the “UMANG App”.
The services are Current Weather, Nowcast, City Forecast, Rainfall Information, Tourism Forecast, Warnings & Cyclone. UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) is a mobile application lunched by the Government of India in 2017 for delivering services online on a single unified platform.

The state government of Uttar Pradesh has announced that it will form a Migration commission to identify the skills of returning migrant workers and provide employment to them.
The government has also planned to provide insurance and a job security scheme to the returning workers. During the announcement, 23 lakh workers and migrants have returned to the state. The proposed Migration commission will map details of migrants, their skills and will provide training, employment and credit facilities.

Indian Hockey legend Balbir Singh Dosanjh also known as Balbir Singh Senior passed away in Punjab at the age of 96. He was the oldest surviving Olympic medallist from India.
Balbir Singh was a part of the 1948 London Olympics gold medal-winning Indian hockey team. He served as the vice-captain of the 1952 gold medal-winning team. During the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, Balbir Singh led the team as the Captain and scored five goals against Afghanistan in India’s opening match. He trained the national team after his retirement.

Indian Technology major Infosys announced a strategic partnership with Switzerland -based software company Avaloq, to provide wealth management services through digital platforms.
Avaloq is a wealth management software and digital technology provider. As per the agreement, Infosys will be a strategic implementation partner for Avaloq’s wealth management suite of solutions. This partnership will focus on providing industry-based wealth management solutions to their clients.

CSIR-IIIM (Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine), Jammu a premier institute under the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) has partnered with Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), to develop a new RT-LAMP based COVID-19 diagnostic kit.
The RT-LAMP (Reverse Transcriptase-Loop Mediated Isothermal Amplification) kit is a nucleic acid- based test conducted from nasal/throat swab sample from patients. It is a rapid, affordable and accurate test. The components are easily available and can be completely manufactured in India.

Narmada Basin Projects Company Ltd. (NBPCL) is a wholly-owned company of Madhya Pradesh government. Central PSU under Ministry of Power, Power Finance Corporation (PFC) has recently partnered with NBPCL to fund projects worth ₹22,000 crore in Madhya Pradesh.
Hydroelectric projects and power components of 12 major multipurpose projects are to be set up by deploying the funds. Major multipurpose projects, which are to be financed include Basaniya Multipurpose Project, Chinki Boras Multipurpose Project Dudhi Project, among others.

Notes:
India’s Covid-19 contact tracing app ‘Aarogya Setu’ was made an open source application by its think tank NITI Aayog.
After several privacy concerns were raised over the app, it has been open sourced so that researchers can identify any vulnerability in the app to make it more secure. National Informatics Centre (NIC), which had developed the app has announced a bug bounty programme to incentivise those who find flaws in the app.
