The flagship initiative of the Minority Affairs Ministry, ‘Hunar Haat’ is expected to be launched once the nation-wide lockdown due to Covid-19 is lifted.
The initiative organises a skill fare and aims to generate employment for crafts-persons, will be launched in September with a theme of ‘Local to Global’. As per the Minority Affairs Ministry, more than five lakh Indian artisans, craftspeople, culinary experts were provided employment opportunities in the last five years by this fare.

Veteran Indian economist Abhas Jha has been appointed by the World Bank as its Practice Manager for Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management for South Asia.
The appointment has been made at a crucial time when the Amphan cyclone has hit West Bengal, Orissa in India and Bangladesh. Abhas Jha will lead and encourage the Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change team of the South Asia region (SAR). The team will deliver recovery solutions to the affected countries.

Former Supreme Court Judge and the International Judge at Singapore International Commercial Court Justice A K Sikri has recently e- inaugurated the Indian Dispute Resolution Centre (IDRC).
IDRC provides a paperless dispute resolution environment through certain software portals. Its arbitration panel has former judges of the Supreme Court, High Courts, district courts and senior advocates, former bureaucrats, chartered accountants among others. The IDRCs are located at strategically commercial places in the country and its head office is in New Delhi.

The state government of Uttar Pradesh has announced that it will form a Migration commission to identify the skills of returning migrant workers and provide employment to them.
The government has also planned to provide insurance and a job security scheme to the returning workers. During the announcement, 23 lakh workers and migrants have returned to the state. The proposed Migration commission will map details of migrants, their skills and will provide training, employment and credit facilities.

The United Nations observes the International Day to End Obstetric Fistula on May 23, since 2013. The day is observed to raise awareness of the issue and mobilize support from across the world.
Obstetric fistula is one of the most serious injuries that can occur during childbirth. This condition makes the affected women easily prone to infections or other health conditions. The women also face social-stigma in the society. The theme of this year is ‘End gender inequality! End health inequities! End Fistula now!’.

Indian American Scientist Rajiv Joshi has been awarded the prestigious Inventor of the Year award by the New York Intellectual Property Law Association. He is an alumnus of IIT Mumbai.
As per the Press Trust of India, he has more than 250 patented inventions in the US and is currently working at IBM Thomson Watson Research Center in New York. He has been selected for the award for his contribution in electronic industry and improving artificial intelligence capabilities.

According to the government-backed news agency of Russia, the country has started developing its first stealth bomber named ‘PAK DA’.
It is estimated the aircraft would be completed next year and it would be able to carry an array of advanced missiles and bombs, including hypersonic weapons. This will compete with the B-2 strategic stealth bomber of the United States. China is also in the process of developing its own stealth bomber, Xian H-20.

World Hunger Day is an initiative by The Hunger Project, which is a New York based organisation committed to end hunger across the world, through programmes in various parts of the world.
It is celebrated on May 28 every year across the world. According to the United Nations’ recent data, the number of people suffering from hunger is rising continuously after 2015. The aim of World Hunger Day is to spread awareness about the impact of acute hunger and solutions to solve hunger and poverty.

Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the 22nd Meeting of the Financial Stability and Development Council (FSDC) and reviewed the current global and domestic macro-economic situation and financial stability in the nation.
Union Finance Minister is the chairperson of FSDC, an autonomous regulatory body set up in the year 2010. Besides the ten members which includes the RBI Governor, Finance Secretary, Chief Economic Adviser, Chairpersons of SEBI, IRDAI, PFRDA, IBBI among others, the Finance Minister may invite any other required person.

Ministry of Tribal Affairs has announced Inclusion of 23 additional Minor Forest Produce (MFP) items in the Minimum Support Price List.
Under the “Mechanism for Marketing of Minor Forest Produce through Minimum Support price and development of Value Chain of MFP” scheme of 2011, the forest dwellers are safeguarded by a minimum price. This is implemented by the TRIFED organisation. This inclusion has increased the coverage from 50 to 73 items in the list.
