China is the largest manufacturer of personal protective equipment (PPE) body coveralls, that is considered as a crucial equipment to safeguard against the prevalent COVID-19 pandemic.
As per the announcement of the Ministry of Textiles, India has become the world’s second largest manufacturer of PPE body coveralls within a short time-span of two months. The ministry also said that it ensures that only certified manufacturers are allowed to supply PPEs to governments.

Every year, the World Turtle Day is observed on May 23, across the world. The day is celebrated to sensitise people about turtle and tortoise and their vulnerable habitats.
A non-profit organization called American Tortoise Rescue (ATR), that was established in 1990 leads the World Turtle Day celebration since 2000. The Al Ain Zoo of Abu Dhabi, which has ten types of turtles celebrated ‘World Turtle Day’ and called for global action to conserve turtles.

Africa Day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of the Organisation of African Unity, which was established 57 years ago, on May 25th, 1963 and its successor organization is the African Union, which was established in 2002.
The day highlights and celebrates the vitality and diversity of Africa and to promote African unity. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the day is celebrated virtually. As of now, Africa has 1.5 percent of the reported cases of COVID-19 in the world and less than 0.1 percent of the world’s deaths.

The World Steel Association located also called as worldsteel, is a global trade body for iron and steel industry. It is headquartered at Brussels, Belgium.
As per the recent report of the association, the crude steel output of India declined over 65 per cent to 3.13 million tonnes (MT) during April. During the same month in 2019, the production was 9.02 MT of crude steel. The lockdown has affected the demand and supply of steel in India. As per the report, Global steel output has also declined 13 per cent.

Recently, a new silver fish species has been discovered by the Head of the Zoology Department from a Kollam-based College, Kerala at Velankanni, Tamil Nadu.
The small freshwater fish belongs to the family Cyprinidae and it has been named as ‘Puntius sanctus’. His research was funded by the Department of Science and Technology. The new fish is deposited in Zoological Survey of India. It has also been registered with ZooBank of the International Commission of Zoological Nomenclature.

The Harry Potter fame author J K Rowling recently unveiled her story online for the kids across the world, during the lock-down.
The title of the story is ‘The Ickabog’ and it is her first children’s story not linked to Harry Potter. The chapters of the story will be published daily until July 10, in an exclusive website recently created for the story. The author also announced that she had written this story a decade ago.

Ola Electric, the subsidiary of the India ridesharing platform Ola, has recently acquired Netherlands-based OEM (Original Equipment manufacturer) Etergo BV.
By this acquisition, Ola Electric is set to enter the premium electric two-wheeler market, both domestic and global. Ola Electric is to use the design and engineering capabilities of Etergo to build its smart electric two-wheeler and launch in India in the year 2021.

Narmada Basin Projects Company Ltd. (NBPCL) is a wholly-owned company of Madhya Pradesh government. Central PSU under Ministry of Power, Power Finance Corporation (PFC) has recently partnered with NBPCL to fund projects worth ₹22,000 crore in Madhya Pradesh.
Hydroelectric projects and power components of 12 major multipurpose projects are to be set up by deploying the funds. Major multipurpose projects, which are to be financed include Basaniya Multipurpose Project, Chinki Boras Multipurpose Project Dudhi Project, among others.

World’s leading toy brand the LEGO Group has recently collaborated with NITI Aayog and Save the Children, to support children impacted by Covid-19 in India.
Under the partnership, LEGO will promote ‘Learning Through Play’ and support home-based learning for children aged 3-8 years during the lock-down times. The initiative will improve access to quality pre-school education through the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) and pre-school centres.

As per the recent data of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Singapore was the largest source of FDI in India during 2019-20 with USD 14.67 billion worth investments. It was followed by Mauritius and the Netherlands.
The data also showed that FDI in India grew by 13 per cent to a record high USD 49.97 billion in 2019-20. Maximum foreign inflows were in service sector (USD 7.85 billion), followed by computer software and hardware.
