Hyderabad teenager Vishwanath Karthikey Padakanti recently became the youngest Indian and the second youngest person in the world to complete the Seven Summits Challenge. The Seven Summits Challenge involves climbing the highest mountain on each of the seven continents. It was first proposed and completed by Richard Bass in 1985. The peaks include Mount Everest in Asia, Aconcagua in South America, Denali in North America, Kilimanjaro in Africa, Elbrus in Europe, Mount Vinson in Antarctica, and either Kosciuszko in Australia or Puncak Jaya in Oceania.

Recently, Diu became the first district in India to meet its entire power demand using solar energy, achieving a capacity of 11.88 megawatts (MW). Minister for New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) Pralhad Joshi praised Diu as a national model for adopting clean energy. Diu now meets all its daytime electricity needs through solar power, showing strong progress in renewable energy use.

The Uttar Pradesh government launched the Bachpan Day Care Centres in 26 more districts to support children with special needs. These centres are specialized facilities that provide early care, education, and social training for differently-abled children in a safe and inclusive environment. Currently, they are active in 25 districts, including all divisional headquarters and seven aspirational districts like Chitrakoot, Fatehpur, Bahraich, Shrawasti, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, and Chandauli.

India’s first Variable Speed Pumped Storage Plant (PSP) has started commercial operations at Tehri in Uttarakhand. It includes a 250 megawatt (MW) unit as part of a larger 1,000 MW hydropower project. The plant stores energy by using surplus electricity to pump water to an upper reservoir, and later releases it to generate power during high demand. This project was executed by THDC India Limited (THDCIL), a public sector company under the Ministry of Power. It is located in Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand.

Recently, the Government of India launched the Ayush Nivesh Saarthi portal during the Ayush Stakeholder and Industry Interaction Meet at Vanijya Bhawan in New Delhi. It is a dedicated digital platform for investors developed by the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) in collaboration with Invest India. It aims to boost India’s traditional wellness systems as a strong economic sector. The portal combines policy details, incentive schemes, ready-to-invest projects, and real-time assistance in one interface.

Recently, Mizoram and Goa declared themselves “fully literate” under the ULLAS adult literacy programme, with literacy rates of 98.2% and 99.72%, respectively. ULLAS stands for Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society and is officially known as Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram or New India Literacy Programme (NILP). It is a centrally sponsored scheme aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The Union Minister of Women and Child Development has launched the Gender Budgeting Knowledge Hub to support gender-sensitive planning across India. It is a digital platform developed by the Ministry of Women and Child Development. The aim is to help policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders use gender-disaggregated data and tools for better planning. The portal offers policy briefs, best practices, and resources to promote gender equity in budgeting. It supports both Central and State-level planning with a focus on gender inclusion.

Recently, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal praised Uttar Pradesh for its outstanding use of the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal in public procurement. In financial year 2024–25 alone, Uttar Pradesh completed over 72 lakh procurement orders worth ₹5.43 lakh crore. From financial year 2020–21 to 2024–25, the total procurement value by the state on GeM was ₹65,227.68 crore. Government e-Marketplace (GeM) is an online portal for buying goods and services by central and state government bodies to ensure transparency and competitiveness.

In a major action against cybercrime and Digital Arrest Scams, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) launched searches at 42 locations across Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh under Operation Chakra-5. The investigation found over 700 bank branches nationwide had opened about 8.5 lakh mule accounts without proper Know Your Customer (KYC) checks or risk assessment.Operation Chakra-V was started by the CBI. Its main aim is to counter international cybercrime networks involved in digital arrests, online financial frauds, data theft, and impersonation.

The Coal Ministry launched the RECLAIM framework on 4th July 2025. RECLAIM means “Revitalizing Ecosystems and Communities through Local Actions for Inclusive Mine-closure”. It is a community engagement and development plan for mine closures. It is developed by the Coal Controller Organisation under the Ministry of Coal with the Heartfulness Institute. It addresses the impact of mine closures on landscapes and local livelihoods.
