ACME Group and Japan’s IHI Corporation announced a joint venture to set up India’s largest green ammonia project in Gopalpur, Odisha. The plant will produce 0.4 million tonnes of green ammonia annually mainly for Japanese power and chemical sectors. It will help cut 0.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year and support India’s Green Hydrogen Mission. The project is targeted for commissioning by 2029-30 with focus on exports to Japan. It aligns with the 15th Japan–India Annual Summit 2025 Joint Declaration on Clean Hydrogen and Ammonia. The project will boost Odisha’s green energy hub status, create jobs, and strengthen India-Japan clean energy partnership.

Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) report 2023 shows 807 river locations unfit for bathing, down from 815 in 2022. Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) monitors river health using Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD). A BOD above 3 mg/L indicates pollution and unfit for bathing. Polluted River Stretch (PRS) is defined as two consecutive locations exceeding the BOD criterion in a river. In 2023, 296 Polluted River Stretch (PRS) were recorded in 271 rivers. In 2022, there were 311 PRS in 279 rivers. Maharashtra had 54 PRS, followed by Kerala 31, Madhya Pradesh and Manipur 18 each, and Karnataka 14.

India’s first overseas defence manufacturing facility was inaugurated in Berrechid, Morocco by Defence Minister of India and Moroccan counterpart Abdelatif Loudyi. The facility is set up by Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) in partnership with Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). It covers 20,000 sq. metres and will produce the indigenously developed Wheeled Armoured Platform (WhAP) for the Royal Moroccan Army. This is the first overseas defence facility by an Indian private company in Africa. The aim is to promote India’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, ‘Make with Friends, Make for the World’.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for Anushakti Vidhyut Nigam’s (ASHVINI) Mahi Banswara Atomic Power Project (MBRAPP) in Banswara, Rajasthan. The project has an investment of approximately ₹42,000 crore and will be one of India’s largest nuclear plants, supplying reliable base-load energy. The project comprises four indigenous 700 megawatt (MW) Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs), also called IPHWR 700, designed by Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL). It is part of India’s “fleet mode” initiative with ten identical 700 MW reactors being built nationwide for cost efficiency and faster deployment.

The Centre announced 100 Aspirational Agriculture Districts under Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY) across 29 states and Union Territories (UTs). Uttar Pradesh has the highest number with 12 districts, followed by Maharashtra (9), Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan (8 each), and Bihar (7). Other states and UTs have districts ranging from 1–4 each, with Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand having 2 districts each. Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY) aims to enhance agricultural productivity, crop diversification, sustainable practices, post-harvest storage, irrigation, and credit access.

Recently, the President of India appreciated that the Siddi tribal community, a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG), has achieved a literacy rate of over 72%. The Siddi community is an Indo-African tribal group descended from the Bantu people of Africa. They first arrived in India in the 7th century with Arab merchants and later with the Portuguese and British in the 16th century as slaves and workers. They are mainly found in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Telangana. The community was classified as a Scheduled Tribe (ST) on January 8, 2003. Their main occupations include agriculture, forest produce collection, and manual labor.

The 624-megawatt (MW) Kiru Hydroelectric Project in Jammu and Kashmir recently achieved a major milestone by completing 10 lakh cubic meters of dam concreting out of a total 12 lakh cubic meters. It is a run-of-river project built on the Chenab River near Patharnakki and Kiru villages in Kishtwar District, Jammu and Kashmir. The dam is a 135-meter-high concrete gravity structure with an underground powerhouse on the left bank. The powerhouse will have four Francis turbines of 156 MW each. It will boost power supply in northern India. The project is developed by Chenab Valley Power Projects (CVPP) — a joint venture of National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC, 49%), Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC, 49%), and Power Trading Corporation (PTC, 2%).

Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the 16th International Railway Equipment Exhibition (IREE) 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. It is Asia’s largest and the world’s second-largest railway exhibition with 450 exhibitors from over 15 countries. The event showcases advanced railway and metro innovations, including Amrit Bharat and Tejas coaches, Vande Bharat, Kolkata Metro, and Namo Bharat trains. India is investing ₹2.56 lakh crore annually for railway modernisation under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

The Punjab Police Cyber Crime Division has launched a statewide awareness programme called ‘Cyber Jago’ to ensure children’s digital safety. The initiative aims to teach Internet Safety and promote safe online use among government school students across Punjab. It addresses rising cyber threats, exposure to inappropriate content, and other online dangers faced by children.

National Beekeeping & Honey Mission (NBHM) was launched in 2021 under the Government of India’s “Sweet Revolution”. It is a Central Sector Scheme focusing on scientific beekeeping, quality honey, and beehive product development. It is implemented by the National Bee Board (NBB). It aims at income generation, infrastructure development, and quality control of honey. It develops traceability systems using blockchain and IT tools.
