NITI Aayog recently launched the India Electric Mobility Index (IEMI). India Electric Mobility Index (IEMI) is a first-of-its-kind tool to track and rank States and Union Territories (UTs) on electric mobility progress. It evaluates all States and UTs out of 100 across 16 indicators under 3 core themes. Transport Electrification Progress measures electric vehicle (EV) adoption on the demand side. Charging Infrastructure Readiness tracks EV charging network development. EV Research and Innovation Status evaluates supply-side research and development.

National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), under Ministry of AYUSH, signed 2 important Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in New Delhi. First MoU was between National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) and IshVed-Bioplants Venture, Pune, Maharashtra. It aims to conserve rare, endangered, and threatened (RET) medicinal plants through tissue culture methods. Second MoU was a tripartite agreement among NMPB, All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. It aims to set up a National Medicinal Plants Garden in AIIMS to promote public awareness and knowledge sharing. NMPB was established in 2000 and functions under the Ministry of AYUSH.

Central government recently urged all states to actively use the India Cine Hub Portal to promote global film production locally. India Cine Hub Portal was launched on June 28, 2024 by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. It is a single-window system for film permissions, incentives, and resource mapping across India. It was developed under the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC). Its aim is to help foreign filmmakers shoot films in India by easing procedures and promoting India as a filming destination.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Kartavya Bhavan-03 on 6th August 2025 in New Delhi under the Central Vista redevelopment project. It is the first of ten planned buildings under the Common Central Secretariat (CCS) to bring all ministries under one roof for better coordination and efficiency. Kartavya Bhavan-03 will house key ministries like Home Affairs, External Affairs, Rural Development, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Petroleum and Natural Gas, and the Principal Scientific Adviser’s Office. This move replaces ageing buildings like Shastri Bhawan, Udyog Bhawan, and Krishi Bhawan, built in the 1950s–70s.

The Ministry of Education is offering free Artificial Intelligence (AI) courses on the SWAYAM Portal to meet rising AI skill demand. SWAYAM stands for Study Webs of Active–Learning for Young Aspiring Minds. It is India’s own MOOCs (Massive Open Online Course) platform launched in 2017 by the Ministry of Education (MoE). The portal aims to bridge the digital divide for students left out of the digital revolution and knowledge economy. It is an indigenously developed IT platform hosting courses from Class 9 to post-graduation. Courses are interactive, taught by top teachers, and available free of cost to residents in India.

A recent genetic study found a possible genetic link to the high rate of Tuberculosis (TB) in the Sahariya tribe of central India. The Sahariya are classified as a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) and are among the most disadvantaged communities. Their population is around six lakh (Census 2011) spread across Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and a few other states. They are also called Seher, Sair, Savar, Saonar, and Sahra. They live in clusters called Seharana with stone or mud houses, following joint family systems.

Air Quality Life Index (AQLI) 2025 report by the Energy Policy Institute, University of Chicago, shows air pollution is India’s top health threat. Dirty air cuts 3.5 years from average life expectancy, higher than malnutrition (1.6 years), tobacco use (1.5 years), and unsafe water (8.4 months). All 1.4 billion Indians live in areas exceeding World Health Organization (WHO) safe PM2.5 limit of 5 µg/m³. Northern India is the world’s most polluted region. Delhi-NCR residents face the highest loss with 8.2 years of life expectancy cut due to air pollution. Bihar residents lose 5.6 years of life expectancy. Haryana residents lose 5.3 years of life expectancy. The report urges urgent emission control to prevent loss of healthy years due to toxic air.

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) will install four additional radars in Jammu & Kashmir under Mission Mausam. Mission Mausam was launched by the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES). It is implemented by IMD, National Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF), and Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM). The mission aims to improve weather and climate services for better observation, modeling, and forecasting. It supports sectors like agriculture, disaster management, and rural development by providing timely and accurate information.

Union Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs said MY Bharat Aapda Mitras will assist in flood rescue in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. MY Bharat is an autonomous body under the Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. It targets youth aged 15-29 years, providing resources, mentorship, learning opportunities, and industry connections to build Viksit Bharat. Aapda Mitras are trained by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) under the Aapda Mitra programme.

Five persons were injured in a recent landslide at the Rattle Hydroelectric Project in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir. It is an 850 MW run-of-river hydroelectric power plant on the Chenab River. The project is developed by Ratle Hydroelectric Power Corporation (RHPCL), a joint venture of Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) and National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC). National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) holds 51% and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) holds 49% equity.
