Rajasthan became the first state to achieve 100% digitisation of voter lists under Special Intensive Revision 2026 (SIR-2026). More than 97% voter mapping completed; only 3% voters need document verification during claims and objections. This equals about 30 voters per polling booth needing extra checks. Success credited to Booth Level Officers (BLOs), supervisors and district officials. Digitisation made the process more transparent, improved booth-wise voter management, and reduced repeated document submission by voters.

The Union Cabinet has approved the Atomic Energy Bill, 2025, branded as SHANTI (Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India), marking the biggest reform in India’s nuclear sector in over six decades. The Bill ends the long-standing monopoly of the Department of Atomic Energy and allows private sector participation in atomic minerals, fuel fabrication, equipment manufacturing, and parts of nuclear plant operations. It will consolidate existing laws, replace outdated provisions of the Atomic Energy Act, 1962, and create a modern, unified legal framework for faster nuclear expansion. An independent nuclear safety authority is proposed to strengthen regulation, transparency, and alignment with global safety standards.

Tamil Nadu has launched a Community-based Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (CbMRV) system to create a people-led climate intelligence movement, strengthening grassroots participation in climate action and decision-making. The CbMRV system was introduced as a pilot in 2023 under the UK PACT (Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions) programme, with the aim of testing community-driven climate data mechanisms. The core concept of CbMRV is to empower local communities to actively collect, validate, and report climate and environmental data, rather than relying solely on top-down institutional assessments.

Goa will create its third district named Kushavati, after the ancient Kushavati River flowing through southern Goa. The river reflects Goa’s ancient geography, culture, livelihood, and ecological identity from historic times like the Chalukya dynasty. The district includes Sanguem, Dharbandora, Quepem, and Canacona talukas, with headquarters at Quepem. Usgalimal petroglyphs on laterite stones along the river show early human settlement thousands of years old. The district will have a new Zilla Panchayat (District Council) to improve governance and development.

Indian Railways will introduce its first Vande Bharat Sleeper Train, upgrading overnight rail travel in India. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that testing and certification are fully completed. The inaugural route will run between Guwahati (Assam) and Howrah (West Bengal). The train will have 16 fully air-conditioned coaches with AC 3-tier, AC 2-tier, and AC First Class, carrying about 823 passengers. It features ergonomic berths, new suspension, and modern safety systems for comfortable overnight journeys. The service will boost regional connectivity and offer Assamese and Bengali cuisine on board.

Recently, the Chief of Defence Staff inaugurated a major runway upgrade at the Indian Air Force base on Car Nicobar Island. Car Nicobar Island is part of the Nicobar district in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Union Territory. It is the northernmost island of the Nicobar group, lying south of Little Andaman and north of Nancowry Island. The Ten Degree Channel separates the Andaman Islands and Nicobar Islands near the island. Despite its small size of under 127 square kilometres, it holds nearly half of Nicobar’s population and serves as the district headquarters.

Project Veer Gatha 5.0 is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Ministry of Education (MoE) under Republic Day celebrations. Approximately 1.92 crore students from around 1.90 lakh schools participated, marking the highest participation since its launch in 2021. A total of 100 national-level “Super-Winners” were selected: 25 each from Preparatory (Grades 3–5) and Middle (Grades 6–8), and 50 from Secondary (Grades 9–12). Each national-level winner will receive a cash prize of ₹10,000 and will attend the Republic Day Parade 2026 at Kartavya Path as a special guest.

The Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) celebrated its 125th Foundation Day at Dhanbad, Jharkhand. It is a regulatory agency under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India. It ensures occupational safety, health, and welfare of workers employed in mines. It is headed by the Director-General of Mines Safety and headquartered at Dhanbad.

The Home and Cooperation Minister launched the National IED Data Management System (NIDMS) to strengthen counter-Improvised Explosive Device (IED) security and internal security systems. It is a national digital platform developed by the National Bomb Data Centre of the National Security Guard (NSG). The system enables systematic collection and analysis of data related to Improvised Explosive Devices to improve terrorist incident investigations. It works as a two-way online platform for the National Investigation Agency, Anti-Terrorism Squads, state police, and Central Armed Police Forces.

Recently, the Union Home Minister chaired the 9th Apex-Level Meeting of the Narco-Coordination Centre (NCORD) at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The Narco-Coordination Centre (NCORD) was established in 2016 to improve coordination between States and the Ministry of Home Affairs. It was further strengthened in 2019 through a four-tier coordination system. The main purpose of NCORD is to address the drug menace in a holistic and coordinated manner. It enhances cooperation, communication, and intelligence sharing among law enforcement and drug control agencies.
