The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved ₹8,146.21 crore for the 700 Megawatt (MW) Tato-II Hydro Electric Project in Shi Yomi district, Arunachal Pradesh. The Tato-II Hydro Electric Project (THEP) is on the Siyom river near Tato village in West Siang district, Arunachal Pradesh. It is a 700 Megawatt (MW) run-of-river project with a reservoir capacity of 56 million cubic meters. The project has 4 turbines of 175 MW each, generating 2,738.06 million units annually. Arunachal Pradesh will get 12% free power and 1% for the Local Area Development Fund (LADF). It is a joint venture between North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO) and the state government.

The government recently approved four new semiconductor manufacturing projects in Odisha, Punjab, and Andhra Pradesh under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) is a specialized and independent institution operates under the guidance of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). It operates as a business division within the Digital India Corporation. It aims to create a strong semiconductor and display ecosystem, making India a global hub for electronics manufacturing and design.

Notes:
Recently, the Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution informed about Anna-Chakra. Anna-Chakra is a supply chain optimisation tool under Public Distribution System (PDS). It is developed with World Food Programme (WFP) and Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT), IIT-Delhi. It is led by the Department of Food and Public Distribution. It uses advanced algorithms for optimal routes and smooth food grain movement.

Recently, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated India’s first ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Lab in Mumbai. He urged students to prepare for a world shaped by climate change, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing. The event also felicitated winners of the national robotics competition organized by STEM Learning and Brilio Pvt. Ltd. ESG sets standards on how institutions operate towards the planet and people. On the social front, ESG promotes inclusion by addressing poverty, inequality, and basic needs. In governance, transparency and ethics under ESG attract investment and ensure sustainable growth.

India has rejected Nepal’s objection to the resumption of India-China border trade through Lipulekh Pass. In 2020, Nepal passed a constitutional amendment and issued a new map claiming Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh, and Kalapani. Lipulekh Pass is a Himalayan pass located in Uttarakhand, India. It serves as a vital link between India and Tibet (China). The pass is an important part of the trade route and the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra pilgrimage. Lipulekh Pass is included in the Bharat Rannbhoomi Darshan initiative promoting battlefield tourism.

Recently, an encounter broke out in Guddar forest, Kulgam, Jammu & Kashmir, under Operation Guddar after terrorists fired at security forces. Operation Guddar is a counter-terrorism mission by J&K Police, Army (Chinar Corps), and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). It is named after the Guddar forest area where militants were suspected to be hiding. The aim of operation is to neutralize active terrorists in South Kashmir and secure forested areas and villages used as hideouts. It focuses on intelligence-based, coordinated actions with minimum civilian harm. Operations are high-risk due to dense forest terrain.

The Indian Army’s Western Command, under ‘Operation Rahat’, is conducting Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) missions in flood-hit North Indian states Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir. More than 13,000 citizens received medical aid, including emergency evacuation of critical cases. Army and Air Force assets, including Advanced Light Helicopters, MI 17s, Cheetah helicopters, and a Chinook, flew 250+ hours of sorties. Coordination with civil administration, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) ensured timely relief and restoration of services.

A preparatory meeting for Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2025 was jointly organized by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), Ministry of Jal Shakti. It was co-chaired by the Hon’ble Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Hon’ble Minister of Jal Shakti with participation of States/UTs. Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2025 campaign will be held from 17th September to 2nd October with the theme “Swachhotsav” aligned with the festive season. The focus will be on clean and green festivities, citizen participation, and visible cleanliness as a shared responsibility.

ACME Group and Japan’s IHI Corporation announced a joint venture to set up India’s largest green ammonia project in Gopalpur, Odisha. The plant will produce 0.4 million tonnes of green ammonia annually mainly for Japanese power and chemical sectors. It will help cut 0.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year and support India’s Green Hydrogen Mission. The project is targeted for commissioning by 2029-30 with focus on exports to Japan. It aligns with the 15th Japan–India Annual Summit 2025 Joint Declaration on Clean Hydrogen and Ammonia. The project will boost Odisha’s green energy hub status, create jobs, and strengthen India-Japan clean energy partnership.

Sawalkote Dam in Jammu and Kashmir is back in focus for India’s hydropower strategy. The Chenab is part of the Indus River system, with west-flowing rivers under Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) restrictions; the treaty is now in abeyance after the April 2025 Pahalgam attack. The Environment Ministry’s Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) will appraise National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) 1,865 MW project for environmental clearance (EC). The Sawalkote Project is a run-of-the-river hydroelectric power project on the Chenab River in Ramban and Udhampur districts of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Union Territory. Sawalkote aims to enhance power availability in the region, particularly during winter, reducing frequent electricity shortages.
