In New Delhi, the Minister for Human Resources Development, Prakash Javadekar has launched the Scheme for Higher Education Youth in Apprenticeship and Skills (SHREYAS) for providing industry apprenticeship opportunities to fresh graduates through the National Apprenticeship Promotional Scheme (NAPS). The aim of the program is to enhance the employability of Indian youth by providing ‘on the job work exposure’ and earning of stipend. SHREYAS is a programme basket comprising the initiatives of three central ministries, including the HRD, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Notes:
The atrial fibrillation technology is used to detect irregularities in the heartbeat. The Apple Watch product makes use of this technology to monitor the functioning of the heart of the wearer. A New York University doctor recently sued Apple for stealing the technology which was patented by him.

The Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda recently launched the ‘APNA UREA – Sona Ugle’ brand and logo of Hindustan Urvarak and Rasayan Limited (HURL).
HURL is a Joint Venture Company, which is promoted by the three PSUs and Maha Ratna Companies – Coal India Limited, NTPC Limited and Indian Oil Corporation Limited. HURL has undertaken the revival process of three sick Urea plants, situated at Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh), Barauni (Bihar) and Sindri (Jharkhand). The plants are to be commissioned in February 2021.

Veteran architect and photographer, also known as the father of modern Iraqi architecture, Rifat Chadirji passed away in the United Kingdom after contracting the novel coronavirus, at the age of 93.
He is known for designing some of the world-famous buildings and structures, including the “Freedom Monument” and his masterwork called “The Unknown Soldier” arch. But several of his designs were damaged in the recent years.

International Everest Day is celebrated on May 29, across the world every year. On the same day in the year 1953, Tenzing Norgay of Nepal and Edmund Hillary of New Zealand had successfully scaled the Mt. Everest.
The mountaineer duo were the first human beings to achieve the prestigious feat. Nepal decided to observe the day as International Everest Day since the climber Edmund Hillary passed away in the year 2008.

The prestigious International Booker Prize for the year 2020 has been awarded to the Dutch author Marieke Lucas Rijneveld for her debut novel “Discomfort of Evening”.
The novel has been translated to English by Michele Hutchison. This prize is announced annually for the best book translated into English and published in UK or Ireland.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued guidelines regarding Compliance Functions in Banks and Role of Chief Compliance Officer (CCO).
The guidelines direct that all banks should have a board approved Compliance Policy and Appointment of CCO. The CCO shall be a senior executive of the bank, preferably in the rank of a General Manager.

National Engineers Day is celebrated on September 15 across the country, to mark the birth anniversary of eminent engineer M Visvesvaraya.
Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya was born on September 15, 1861 in Karnataka. He served as the Chief engineer in Mysore and had contributed to several technical projects in Hyderabad, Mysore, Maharashtra and Odisha, including the block system of irrigation in the Deccan canals.

Notes:
The World Health Organization (WHO) has designated 2020-2030 as the “Decade of Healthy Ageing”. International Day of Older Persons is observed on October 1 every year.
United Nations designated this day to focus on the well-being and special needs of the elderly people. The UN theme of the International Day of Older Persons 2020 is “Pandemics: Do They Change How We Address Age and Ageing?”.

The Internal Market Bill is designed to protect the trade between Britain’s four nations after the process of Brexit.
Recently, the House of Lords voted against the clauses in the bill which would allow the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to breach Britain’s EU exit treaty. This is seen as a defeat to the ruling Conservative Party in the upper chamber.
