The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has launched the ‘Zero Poverty Programme’ in the name of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. The aim is to ensure no one in the state is left without basic facilities and all poor families get benefits of government schemes. The program is inspired by Dr. Ambedkar’s vision of educational, social, and economic upliftment. In each Gram Panchayat, 20–25 families still deprived of basic services will be identified. These families will be provided with houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, toilets, water, electricity, gas connection, Ayushman Bharat card, and pensions.

The Madhya Pradesh government has declared 258.64 square kilometers of forest in Sagar district as a wildlife sanctuary named Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Abhyaran, ahead of Dr B R Ambedkar’s 134th birth anniversary on April 14. The sanctuary spans across North Sagar forest division, including Banda and Shahgarh forest areas. This makes it the 25th wildlife sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh, a state known for its rich tiger reserves. The sanctuary will support wildlife conservation, strengthen the ecosystem, and also boost tourism and create employment for local communities.

The Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Hostel Scheme is a scheme launched by the Uttar Pradesh government. The Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Hostel Scheme is a significant initiative aimed at providing residential facilities for students, particularly those from marginalized communities like Scheduled Castes (SCs), who might face difficulties in pursuing higher education due to financial constraints or lack of accommodation. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh government, is implementing this scheme and other initiatives related to educational opportunities for marginalized communities.

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal announced the Dr. Ambedkar Samman Scholarship for Dalit students. The scholarship offers full financial support for Dalit students to pursue higher education abroad. It covers tuition fees, travel costs, and living expenses for studying at top universities worldwide. The initiative ensures deserving Dalit students can access world-class education without financial barriers. This step by the Delhi government aims to empower the Dalit community through higher education opportunities.

Notes:
The Statue of Equality will be inaugurated by the Ambedkar International Center in Maryland, a state in the United States.
It will be the tallest statue of Ambedkar outside India. This statue is a replica of the world’s largest Ambedkar statue, located in Hyderabad and which stands 125 feet tall. It was crafted by Ram Sutar, who also created Sardar Patel’s ‘Statue of Unity’ in Gujarat.

Former Indian President Ram Nath Kovind recently conferred the Bharat Ratna Dr Ambedkar Award to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The award recognized the Chief Minister’s role in making Uttar Pradesh a fear-free state. Buddhanjali Research Foundation organized the award ceremony.

Notes:
The Telangana State Secretariat, the brain child of Chief Minister has been inaugurated on April 30. It was constructed at a cost of around Rs.600 crore.
Named after B.R. Ambedkar, the secretariat is spread over 28 acres and, rising 265 feet high, is taller than the Qutab Minar in Delhi, Taj Mahal in Agra and the iconic Charminar in Hyderabad.

Notes:
The Telangana Government recently announced an award in the name of Babasaheb Dr. B R Ambedkar.
The government will form Rs.51 crore corpus for this award and every year. Rs.3 crore worth of award will be given to anyone involved in the welfare of Dalits.
