President Confers National Teachers’ Awards 2026

The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, conferred the National Teachers’ Awards 2026 on 82 educators at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on 5 September 2026. The awardees included school teachers, higher-education and polytechnic faculty members, and skill development trainers from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

National Teachers’ Awards

The National Teachers’ Awards are annual honours presented by the Government of India to recognise teachers for their contribution to education. The awards cover school education, higher education, polytechnic education, and skill development training.

2026 Awardee Composition

The 82 awardees in 2026 included 48 school teachers, 21 higher-education and polytechnic faculty members, and 13 skill development trainers. The 48 school teachers came from 27 states, 7 Union Territories, and 6 central government organisations. The school-teacher group included 26 male educators and 22 female educators. The higher-education and polytechnic group included 12 faculty members from central Higher Educational Institutions, 5 from state universities, and 4 from polytechnic institutions.

Institutional and Policy Context

The ceremony was held at Vigyan Bhawan, a major conference venue in New Delhi used for national-level government events. The Ministry of Education administers the National Teachers’ Awards for school and higher-education categories, while skill development trainers are linked to the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. President Droupadi Murmu referred to India as a knowledge superpower and the Skill Capital of the World during the ceremony.
