PM Modi, President Murmu Launch Odisha Projects Worth ₹47,600 Crore
On 20 June 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu jointly inaugurated and laid foundation stones for development projects worth over ₹47,600 crore in Odisha. The event took place at Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district and covered energy, transport, healthcare, irrigation, education, tourism, and industrial infrastructure.
Major Energy and Industrial Projects
The foundation stones included the 600 MW Upper Indravati Pumped Storage Project and the Stage-II expansion of the IB Thermal Power Station with two additional 660 MW units. The Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Limited project at Lakhanpur in Jharsuguda district has an investment of around ₹25,000 crore and is linked with coal gasification and chemical production.
Railway and Connectivity Projects
Prime Minister Modi dedicated two railway multi-tracking projects worth over ₹732 crore to the nation. These projects are the Jakhapura–Jajpur Keonjhar Road–Baitarani Road section and the Hindol Road–Meramandali section, and they are connected with freight movement and rail network capacity.
Tribal Development and Solar Village Initiative
During the event, Pahadpur village in Mayurbhanj district was announced as a Solar Village. The plan provides for household-level solar energy access in the village, and the leaders also visited the Skill Centre and Pahadpur School.
