PM Launches Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Abhiyan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan on 2 August 2026 at 11 AM through video conferencing. The campaign is a 100-week nationwide Jan Bhagidari programme against substance abuse and is organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports through MY Bharat.

Nasha Mukt Bharat and Youth Mobilisation

The campaign aims to involve young people in anti-drug awareness and community participation. It seeks to build a network of youth participants who can work as local ambassadors for social change in schools, colleges, universities, villages, and urban neighbourhoods. More than one crore youth from over 10,000 locations joined the launch and took the Nasha Mukti Pledge. The initiative includes MY Bharat Volunteers, National Service Scheme volunteers, youth clubs, non-governmental organisations, industry associations, and more than 125 partner spiritual organisations.

Weekly Activities and Public Participation

Weekly activities are scheduled every Sunday across India during the 100-week campaign. The planned activities include sports events, walkathons, meditation sessions, cultural programmes, and art competitions. Jan Bhagidari is a Hindi term for public participation and is used in several government outreach programmes in India. The campaign uses this model to spread awareness on substance abuse prevention at the community level.

Pilot Project in Kashi

The Prime Minister stated that the initiative began as a pilot project in Kashi, also known as Varanasi, in the previous year before its national expansion. Kashi is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in India and a major cultural centre in Uttar Pradesh.
