India Secures ₹5,500 Crore for Telecom Manufacturing Zone

India’s first Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) is being developed in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, with investment commitments of ₹5,500 crore. The project is linked to a Memorandum of Understanding signed on 30 July 2026 between the Department of Telecommunications and the Madhya Pradesh government.

Telecom Manufacturing Zone

A Telecom Manufacturing Zone is a specialised industrial cluster for telecom equipment, electronics manufacturing, research and development, and innovation. The Gwalior TMZ is planned as a plug-and-play facility with industrial infrastructure for manufacturing units and allied services.

Project Location and Land Support

The zone is being developed in Gwalior, a city in Madhya Pradesh, on land provided by the state government. The land parcel is reported at about 170 acres, while some references mention 350 acres for the project area.

Investment Commitments and Employment

A fresh investor roundtable held in Mumbai on 4 August 2026 generated commitments of more than ₹2,000 crore. The total committed investment has reached ₹5,500 crore, and the project is projected to create more than 18,000 jobs. Initial estimates on 30 July 2026 placed first-phase employment at around 4,500 jobs.
