NTA Introduces Four-Tier Question Paper Checks

The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced a four-tier question paper checking system in New Delhi on 18 August 2026. The agency also removed 600 experts from its panels, began onboarding new specialists, and announced changes in staffing, security, and examination operations.

The National Testing Agency is an autonomous testing organisation under the Ministry of Education. It conducts major entrance and recruitment examinations in India, including university-level and professional tests.

Four-Tier Question Paper Checking System

The new system will examine question papers for factual errors, grammatical errors, translation errors, and formatting errors before finalisation. Such multi-stage scrutiny is used in examination administration to reduce mistakes in printed and digital test material.

Operational and Security Measures

The NTA said it is shifting offices to new premises on a war footing. The new premises will have reinforced security by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and the agency has planned secluded workrooms, air-gapped systems, and strict device-deposit protocols for confidential operations.

The agency also planned to induct 20 to 25 new officials over the next two to three weeks. It has advertised 10 professional leadership posts, including Chief Technology Officer and Chief Information Security Officer.

UGC-NET Re-examination

The NTA issued a notification for the re-examination of the June 2026 UGC-NET papers in English, Commerce, and Sociology. The re-examination was scheduled for 9 and 10 September 2026 after a committee found severe factual errors and repeated questions in the earlier papers.
