NABARD Grameena Habba

‘Grameena Habba,’ a platform for rural artisans to sell handicraft, agricultural, and handloom products, is being held by NABARD’s Karnataka regional office in Bengaluru till March 14.

Overview:

  • This event features handloom sarees, handmade arts, home decors, handwoven clothing material, natural beauty products, tribal products, jewellery, organic food products, and accessories from weavers, rural artisans, farmers, and tribes from numerous districts of Karnataka and across India.
  • The incomes from the sale of these items will go directly to the artisans.

Participants

More than 25 artisans from various districts in Karnataka, as well as artisans from Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha, are participating in this event.

Products that are being showcased

The exclusive Karnataka products, including the GI products like Kasuti work, Udupi sarees, Channapatna toys, Aari embroidered fabrics, Kolhapuri chappals, Mysuru’s unique rosewood inlay, organic food products, crafted home decors, and products from different parts of India, like lac bangles of Bhopal, Jaipuri quilt, Aarni silk of Tamil Nadu, Maheswari silk of Madhya Pradesh, Kosa silk sarees of Chhattisgarh, Ikat sarees of Telangana, ornaments of Odisha, spices and temple crafts of Kerala, and bedsheets of Uttar Pradesh, are available.

Reason for hosting such an event

The current COVID-19 crisis, according to the NABARD, has wreaked havoc on the whole economy, particularly in rural areas. Hence, these kinds of exhibitions are essential for the recovery of the country’s rural economy.
