Mizoram and NITI Aayog to Hold Joint Tourism Conclave

In a move to accelerate tourism growth in the Northeast, Mizoram’s tourism minister Lalnghinglova Hmar and NITI Aayog member Dr VK Paul have agreed to jointly organise the “Mizoram Tourism Conclave”. The decision was made during a meeting in New Delhi on Monday, focusing on strategic collaboration between the state government and NITI Aayog to boost Mizoram’s tourism sector through stakeholder participation and targeted policy planning.

Focus on Stakeholder Involvement

The proposed conclave aims to bring together diverse stakeholders including government departments, industrialists, educational institutions, and tourism service providers. Both sides emphasised that the active involvement of all key sectors is essential for ensuring long-term benefits for local communities. A joint task force will soon be formed to finalise the event’s schedule and coordinate preparations to ensure a productive and inclusive conclave.

Boost from Railway Connectivity

Tourism officials reported a marked rise in visitor numbers following the opening of the new railway line up to Sairang, near Aizawl. The improved connectivity has made travel to the state more convenient for both domestic and foreign tourists. Between August and September this year, Mizoram recorded 1,27,458 visitors, including 2,208 foreign tourists. Aizawl district alone accounted for nearly 60 percent of these arrivals, reflecting its growing appeal as a tourism hub.

Integration with Ginger Stakeholder Consultation

The tourism conclave will be organised alongside the upcoming “Stakeholder Consultation on Ginger Produce for Mizoram”, scheduled in New Delhi on November 24. The consultation will be attended by Chief Minister Lalduhoma and will showcase opportunities in multiple sectors, including tourism, agriculture, and entrepreneurship. The state hopes to use this event to attract investors and establish sustainable development models.
