Minister for Loneliness

The Japanese government has appointed the first Minister for Loneliness recently. UK was the first to create such a role in 2018. The recent appointment came after Japan faced increased rate of suicides for the first time in more than a decade during the pandemic. Japan also created an isolation/loneliness countermeasures office within the cabinet to address the issues of suicide and child poverty.
