Make In India Launches Advanced Logistics Data Bank

India has taken step in enhancing its logistics sector with the launch of Logistics Data Bank (LDB) 2.0. This development was announced by the Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, as part of the decade-long Make in India celebrations. LDB 2.0 aims to transform India’s logistics ecosystem by providing real-time data and improving supply chain efficiency. It supports the government’s vision of a digitally empowered and export-competitive economy.
Overview of Logistics Data Bank 2.0
LDB 2.0 is an upgraded digital platform developed by NICDC Logistics Data Services. It offers comprehensive tracking of export containers, including high-seas tracking beyond Indian ports. The platform integrates data from multiple transport modes such as road, rail, and sea. This multi-modal visibility helps in seamless shipment monitoring and better coordination among stakeholders.
Features and Functionalities
The platform provides real-time vital information about logistics infrastructure and facility availability. It tracks containers using container numbers, truck or trailer IDs, and railway Freight Network Records (FNRs). The integration with the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) APIs enhances data accuracy and accessibility. A live container heatmap shows the geographical distribution of containers, enabling quick identification of supply chain bottlenecks.
Benefits for Industry and Government
LDB 2.0 facilitates improved planning and operational efficiency. It reduces logistics costs by enabling better resource allocation and timely interventions. The system supports Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and exporters by providing transparent and reliable data. For the government, it serves as a vital tool to strengthen competitiveness and policy-making in the logistics sector.
Contribution to Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat @2047
The initiative aligns with India’s broader goals of self-reliance and sustainable growth. By building a robust digital logistics backbone, LDB 2.0 enhances India’s export potential and global trade credibility. The platform’s data-driven approach supports the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, aiming for a developed and globally competitive economy.
