Maharashtra Doubles Pink E-Rickshaw Subsidy for Women

Maharashtra expanded its Pink E-Rickshaw Scheme on 14 July 2026 by increasing the subsidy for women beneficiaries from 20 per cent to 40 per cent of the total vehicle cost. The State Cabinet approved the revision under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and the scheme now covers more districts across the State.

Pink E-Rickshaw Scheme

The Pink E-Rickshaw Scheme is a State welfare and livelihood programme for women in Maharashtra. It provides financial support for the purchase of e-rickshaws, which are battery-operated three-wheelers used for short-distance passenger transport.

Revised Financial Structure

Under the revised framework, a beneficiary must contribute at least 10 per cent of the vehicle cost as self-financing. The remaining amount can be covered through an interest-free Partial Deferred Payment Facility from the supplier or through approved bank loans. Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare stated that the revised subsidy structure is intended to reduce the initial cost burden for women entering the transport sector. Existing beneficiaries who already received vehicles will also receive a retrospective increase in subsidy from 20 per cent to 40 per cent, which reduces their outstanding loan liability.

Administrative and Transport Provisions

The subsidy distribution process has been centralised through the Office of the Commissioner, Women and Child Development in Pune. This arrangement is meant to handle subsidy disbursal and related administrative work from a single office. State Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has directed officials to identify dedicated non-congestion routes in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region for e-rickshaws. Such routes are linked with last-mile connectivity, which refers to short-distance transport between major transit points and final destinations.
