Ladakh Lieutenant Governor’s Cup Polo Tournament

The 6th LG Cup Horse Polo Championship concluded on 27 July 2026 in Drass, Ladakh. Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena attended the final, and the Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre won the title by defeating the Animal Husbandry Department, Leh.

LG Cup Horse Polo in Ladakh

The LG Cup Horse Polo Championship is a regional equestrian tournament held in Ladakh. Horse polo is played on horseback with a ball and mallets, and it remains associated with high-altitude regions where equestrian traditions are part of local sports culture.

2026 Tournament Format and Teams

The 2026 edition ran from 21 July to 27 July 2026 and lasted one week. The championship featured 18 men’s teams and four women’s teams from different parts of Ladakh.

Prize Money and Final Result

Vinai Kumar Saxena announced an increase in the prize fund for the LG Horse Polo Cup on 27 July 2026. The winners received Rs one lakh and the runners-up received Rs 50,000 in 2026, compared with Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 in the previous edition. The winner’s purse is scheduled to rise further to Rs two lakh in the next season.

Goshan Stadium and Earlier Edition

The 4th LG Cup Horse Polo-2024 Tournament was inaugurated on 5 November 2024 by then Lieutenant Governor Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) at Goshan Stadium in Drass. A newly constructed Horse Polo Stadium at Goshan, Drass, built at an estimated cost of Rs 6.84 crore, was also unveiled on the same day.
