India Ranks Third in Ipsos Healthcare Quality Perception Index

As of October 2026, India ranks third in the Ipsos Quality of Care Perception Index, behind Malaysia and Singapore. The Ipsos Health Service Report 2026 records that 68% of Indians positively rate the quality of healthcare available to them. The index measures public perceptions and is distinct from measures based on health outcomes or healthcare access.

Perception-based healthcare rankings

Ipsos conducted its survey from 13 July to 7 August 2026 across 32 countries, with 22,528 adults participating. Malaysia ranked first and Singapore second in the country comparison. India recorded the highest result among the surveyed countries for ease of obtaining a doctor’s appointment, with 73% of citizens saying they could secure care when needed. The report identifies affordability as a challenge for India’s healthcare system. Its findings also record high levels of trust and perceived accessibility among Indian respondents. These measures reflect survey responses rather than a clinical assessment of treatment quality or patient outcomes.

Survey measures and interpretation

A perception index compiles respondents’ views using a defined survey method and participating population. Its results may differ from rankings based on indicators such as mortality, disease burden or service coverage. The Ipsos survey’s 32-country sample provides a comparison among those participating countries; it is not a ranking of every country in the world.

Comparison with Global Burden of Disease studies

Older studies produced substantially different rankings for India. The Lancet’s Global Burden of Disease study ranked India 145th among 195 countries for healthcare access and quality in May 2018. A study published in May 2017 placed India 154th among 195 countries. These rankings use a different basis from the Ipsos survey’s assessment of public perceptions.
