India Plans Defence Expansion Across Indo-Pacific by 2047

India has set a 2047 defence roadmap for a fully integrated, self-reliant, all-domain military force with power projection across the Indo-Pacific and beyond. The plan is linked to the Defence Forces Vision 2047 and includes targets for domestic production, exports, and new operational commands.

Defence Forces Vision 2047

The Defence Forces Vision 2047 was unveiled by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. It describes a meta-strategy that links national security with economic development. The vision covers cyber, underwater, and space domains, along with integrated military operations.

Production and Export Targets

India targets domestic defence production of Rs 8.8 trillion by 2047. This is projected as a six-fold rise from current levels. Defence exports are projected to reach Rs 2.8 trillion by 2047, which is nine times the present level. The strategy places emphasis on Atmanirbharta in defence manufacturing, domestic innovation, and private-sector participation.

Phased Roadmap to 2047

The roadmap has three phases. The first is the Era of Transition up to 2030. The second is the Era of Consolidation from 2030 to 2040. The third is the Era of Excellence from 2040 to 2047. The final phase is linked to a fully integrated and self-reliant military structure.

Institutional and Capability Additions

The vision includes a Defence Geo-Spatial Agency, a Data Force, a Drone Force, and a Cognitive Warfare Action Force. It also includes dedicated Space Commands and Cyber Commands. These bodies are planned for multi-domain operations and technology-driven warfare.
