India Objects to Pakistan Remarks on Jammu and Kashmir at UN

India objected on 24 June 2026 to Pakistan raising the Kashmir issue at a United Nations forum in New York. India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, stated that the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is an internal matter of India.

Jammu and Kashmir in India’s Constitutional Position

India has maintained that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral and inalienable part of India. The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir was formed after the reorganisation of the former State of Jammu and Kashmir in 2019 under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019.

The United Nations General Assembly is the main deliberative organ of the United Nations, and the United Nations Security Council handles international peace and security under the UN Charter.
