Moreover, the scheme does not alter the inter-se seniority order of personnel.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the honorary rank, personnel must meet specific criteria. They must fulfil all promotion prerequisites at the time of retirement. A clean service record is essential, with no major disciplinary actions in the last five years. The Annual Performance Appraisal Report for the previous five years should be rated at least ‘Good’. Additionally, integrity certification must be beyond doubt. Clearance from departmental inquiries and vigilance is also mandatory. Finally, a recommendation from the commanding officer is required.

Terms and Conditions

The honorary rank is granted based on the recommendation of the relevant commanding officer. It is conferred on the last day of service. No financial or pension benefits accompany the honorary rank. The rank can only be granted if it exists within the personnel’s category. Importantly, granting the honorary rank does not affect the personnel’s inter-se seniority.
