Hindalco Commissions Superfine PPT ATH Plant in Karnataka
Hindalco Industries Limited, the metals flagship of the Aditya Birla Group, commissioned India’s first greenfield Superfine Precipitated Aluminium Trihydrate (PPT ATH) manufacturing plant on 27 August 2026. The facility is located in Belagavi, Karnataka, and marks domestic production of a specialty alumina material used in fire-safety applications.
Superfine Precipitated Aluminium Trihydrate
Precipitated Aluminium Trihydrate is an aluminium hydroxide-based mineral compound used as a flame-retardant filler in polymers. Superfine PPT ATH is used in halogen-free flame-retardant materials, polymer insulators, and thermal insulation products.
Plant Capacity and Expansion
The Phase 1 annual production capacity of the plant is 30,000 tonnes. The facility has been designed for phased expansion to 60,000 tonnes per year, which is double the initial capacity.
Renewable Energy and Manufacturing Features
The plant is described as the world’s only specialty alumina plant powered entirely by renewable energy. Its energy mix includes solar, wind, and biomass power, and the facility uses fully automated process controls under Hindalco’s in-house “flask-to-factory” R&D and technology programme.
