Gyaneshwari Yadav Wins Silver in Commonwealth Games 2026

Indian weightlifter Gyaneshwari Yadav won the silver medal in the women’s 53kg weightlifting event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland, on 27 July 2026. The 23-year-old from Chhattisgarh lifted a personal best total of 199kg, with 88kg in the snatch and 111kg in the clean and jerk.

Commonwealth Games Weightlifting Format

Weightlifting at the Commonwealth Games follows the standard Olympic-style format of two lifts, namely the snatch and the clean and jerk. The total score is the sum of the best successful lift in each discipline, and medals are awarded on the basis of the combined total.

Women’s 53kg Category

The women’s 53kg class is a bodyweight division in international weightlifting. Athletes in this category compete within a maximum bodyweight limit of 53 kilograms, and results are recorded separately for the snatch, clean and jerk, and total lift.
