The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has elected Ethiopia, Bolivia, Sweden, Kazakhstan and Italy or the Netherlands as the non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2017-2018 term. In accordance with the agreement, Italy will take the Security Council seat for 2017 and the Netherlands for 2018. The two-year term of new members will start from January 1, 2017 and will replace Angola, Malaysia, New Zealand, Spain and Venezuela. The Security Council is made up of 15 nations. Five permanent members hold veto power—the U.S., China, Russia, France and the U.K. The 10 non-permanent members two-year terms rotate among various countries, with specific quotas for each region of the world.

The Odisha government has signed a pact with WorldFish, an international non-profit research organization, to boost fish production in the state. The WorldFish will facilitate aquaculture operations through quality fish seed technology and farming systems. The agreement will be effective for 5-years from July 2016. Sweden has recently launched a test stretch of an electric road in Sandviken to conduct tests with electric power for hybrid heavy transports on public roads. With this, Sweden has become the first country in the world to have electric road. The tests will be conducted on the parts of road E16 and will continue till 2018. They will provide knowledge of how electric roads work in practice and whether the technology can be used in the future. The experiment is based on the government’s goal of energy efficiency and a fossil fuel-free vehicle fleet by 2030 and will contribute to strengthening Sweden’s competitiveness.
